It would really depend on the gun i.e shotgun or rifle.but from being out lamping with mates iv been told its a lot easier to bring some1 to lamp for you as it lightens the load on yourself.it also makes lamping a lotsafer just in case of emergencys.and a lot less lonely.happy huntin bud

Lightforce give the best beam from a conventional lamp. The 170 Striker is a good model for rifle shooting. Island Sports in Castlebar had some pretty good deals not so long back, not sure if that's changed since but they were cheaper than anywhere else I know of at that time.

A torch may suit for rimfire or shotgun. I've an Eagletac one and for a scoped rifle it's good to 125 yards or so for a shot.

lightforce are hard to beat but expensive especially when you ad in a battery and a filter,
google it and you'll find them

another new one which is a copy of the lightforce is the ucaller lamp which are meant to be good

i myself use a lightforce blitz and its good although the wiring can give trouble on them they are still the best lamp beam wise

although saying that i want to buy an led torch soon enough as i find it hard to get the father or any1 else out lamping with me so for solo lamping something like a scope mounted ledlenser p7 would be nice and light as my rifle already weighs enough without a lamp on it, although i'm still tempted to just buy another lightforce 140 or 170 scope mounted version

The 170 comes in two models, one is scope mounted (which you want), the other is hand held.

Shop around just to be sure, Google and the Irish shooters Digest will throw up the names and numbers of most dealers in the country. There's a shooting or dealers wikipedia around somewhere too but I don't have a link for it.

A lot of the lads here are using the P7 LED torch fixed to the scopes

BUT ARE very shy about writing a good review of fitting and using them

This what I have and use.
First I go lampimg with my son and we both have the hand held U caller night eye lamps, a clone of the LF 170's. On the scope I have this set up with a GOOD review of it all here. cost around $60 with batteries, charger and postage

I'm not a Novelist, so I keep my posts relatively short and sweet.

the P7 can be installed removed in seconds, yet it holds firm on the rifle.
The battery life is fantastic. 3xAA 20hrs

€74 delivered to your door, and they accept Laser (i do not have a credit card)
I can leave the light on my rifle and use during the day as it weighs feck all and is activated when I hold the hand grip via a pressure switch.

I have no Epic stories of foxing as i have not got one with it yet.
On a moonlight night Visibility is ~250 yards, and if like Sat night and no moon ~ 180 yards.

I leave Scope on 5.5x and Illum Reticle on and I have the Parralax set for ~100 yards

i have shot one bunny with it to date so I know it works :D

Callingfoxes, now that is another story :(

Can you get filters for it do you know

I would not use a filter on it, as you need a serious light (like my Lightforce 170) for a filter to work as a filter takes a lot of the luminosity out of the lamp

When I put a red filter on my LF the beam is drastically reduced in brightness

Try a good music shop that sells instruments and disco stuff. Get the gel filters for the spot lamps (coloured film), it comes in rolls and different colours. You can wrap it round the torch.

    hi lads

I got the X21 Led Lenser for xmas and i have to say the light is unreal and unlike the light force no wires, but its down fall is when you have it fully zoomed in the spot is that bit too big.

lightforce hand held if you have help or scope mount if you don't i have both and there great. I also have a LED but only use it to spot obstacles and back up.I was thinking of getting one of thesehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCGajez42qU

Yeah the light is much whiter than the lf and it will show up the eyes of grass hopper :) i also noticed that the fox didn't pay to much attention to it when used ( probably because its so white ? ). i believe its the new generation of light/lamping.

Hi guy, just got a UCaller 140 varialble handheld yesterday.€90 from LR Active.
Great lamp out to about 250m.Not great in fog though.Bagged my first fox tonite with a Hornet at about 160m.Was able to hold the lamp under the gun with one hand as I took the shot.
Brother has a LF Blitz(I think).Serious lamp to 400m but a bit big and awkward if you are on your own.
For the money I would highly recommand the U Caller.

Meant to mention in the last post that if you can pick up a battery from one of those "emergency exit" signs you'll save yourself a packet.Companies will always be getting rid of them to comply with Health & Safety but they will be perfect 2nd hand.Just get yourself a cigarette lighter from a motor accessory shop for €6 and you're away.
