    Hi
I'm new to all this and was wondering where best to find so 5k, 10k events for 2011?

I'm going to do the Aware 10k on 15th, but would have loved to do a 5k for my first race! Would it be ok if I had to walk abit of the 10K, will I get in the way and be frowned upon?

Have registered a good while had hoped it wouldnt have been a problem but with the bad weather I havent had much luck with getting out up till this week.

    Thanks

Nah, you can walk some, run some. No one will care.

I'm thinking of doing a 10k on Feb 13th, and a 5k in the city centre on Paddy's day. You should be able to find a list of races on bhaa.ie and runireland.com too.

That's a great site! I might actually do the 4.75 k in Tymon park, as it's not too far from where I live :D

There's a reschedulled 5k in Wicklow Town on the 9th of Jan @ 11:30 - just turn up and register on the day - the flyer below is from the original 26th date - but has the contact info if you need it.

Between the weather and christmas, i'd imagine a lot of people will walk bits of AWARE! Interval running 3 times a week and one LSR this weekend (aim for a slow 7km if you can) is your best bet in the interim.. you'd be surprised, on the day you might push the 10km out no problem.

here are the dates for the adidas race series (pre dublin marathon)

    The Race Series 2011
    • Irish Runner 5 mile - Sat 16th July
    • Frank Duffy 10 Mile - Sat 20st Aug
    • Dublin Half-Marathon - Sat 17th Sept
also, if youre interested in adventure racing, check out www.msai.ie

There's also a 5k IMRA race around Howth this weekend, http://www.imra.ie/events/view/id/817/

5k in the city centre on Paddy's day.

Can't find any details about this on RunIreland.com, there seems to be very few 5K races in the coming months.

Am I looking at the wrong site or page or something???

Its promoted by Metro St. Brigids on the Sunday before Paddy's Day. Not all races appear on each of the listing sites. Runireland don't necessarily get all the club races and you wont see many non-club races on Athletics Ireland

The rescheduled RNLI Reindeer Run is on in Marlay Park in Rathfarnham next Sunday, 16th. There is a 5k and 10k option.

Info should appear on msbac.ie sometime soon - nothing there yet but it's a popular race so hopefully on again this year.

The Great Ireland Run is very crowded. I've been roped in to a charity group at work, but otherwise I don't know if I'd bother doing it. You might want to take a look at last year's thread.
But then again, you might like to do it at least once, and better do it early in your running career before you start getting picky :)

Agree with the above. I ran it last year and don't think I'd do it again. Apart from the fact I'm not a big fan of road running it was just too packed. It wasn't an issue after a couple of K but it involved alot of messing around at the start to ensure you got a spot in your respective expected finishing time. Then once the race started, running around or through people who either busted off like a whippet at the beginning only to blow up before the first corner or getting by people who had no business starting where they started from.

Is Raheny 5 an ok run for a new runner??

Or is there alot of expert runners in it.

It's fine for a new runner. When I ran it last year it was my first time running 5 miles.
There are a lot of expert runners too, but as long as you don't stand in the front and get trampled that doesn't really matter. You won't be lonely at the back...

It is on Sunday 13 February at 10am in the Phoenix Park.
I have asked them what the route is.

The Raheny 5 is for all abilities, even walkers. As your new dont go near the front as all club runners are ususally up the front and you might start off too fast to what you are use to. The course is fairly flat apart from a little hill aroung the 4mile marker :). This would be a better course than the Bupa 10k which can get very congested as it usuallly draws a large crowd. Good luck on Sunday if you go for it :)
