Hi all , a complete outsider thats just learning the ways of trading, just wondering can anyone answer me that question. What exactly happens at a stock exchange that isnt happening online all over the world.
If I have an account set up with a broker using a trading platform and am buying and selling stocks or trading forex, whats the difference between that and working on a trading floor?
Cheers, please bare in mind Im new to all this.:)

this probably wouldnt answer your question but I'll give it a shot.

its true you can buy shares online and do what you want but i will give you an illustration of why it's is better.

would you watch lets say man u vs Chelsea on your own or watch it with your mates in a pub or in your house.

I would love to think that 90% would watch it with someone else or go ans see in the pub.

my point is this a trading environment is fun exciting and the vibe you get off it is immense.

Watching a screen on your own IMO is boring and its not fun.

watching other traders you will get to interact with them as to what stock is doing well or so.

if I'm wrong please correct me.

There is no difference beside in the smallest of details like order execution or the flow of information and even these advantages are being seriously eroded with the advance of technology.

In 10 years there will be barely any floor trading left for stocks and futures and the options markets will have seen their volumes seriously diminished. The main difference that will never change I guess is that you have to pay your broker for the privilege of him trading for you. Locals have to pay the exchange though so that benefit is negligible anyway
