Over the age limit for joining Irish Army

    Hi all,

Recently it was suggested to me that I should apply to join the army band. A lot of my family are in the army but I chose to take a different career path but in the current economic climate, work has dried up for me.

I have the musical qualifications that they require but I'm a year or so over their maximum age limit. I would love to join as there is more job security than most and I really love playing music. I'm also quite a fit and healthy person.

Does anyone have experience of people being accepted into the army when they're above the required age limit? Or are they absolutely 100% concrete with that policy?

I think you're out of luck, but you should call the Manpower office. It can't hurt, although I'll bet you two pints and a pack of bacon fries they won't budge.

You should ring Army School of Music in Cathal Brugha Bks, Dublin.

Army School of Music is certainly your first phone call. Army band personnel are enlisted directly. Manpower Offices have nothing to do with their enlistment.
