Unlocking Android phones - easy?

Guys, just a quick question - if I buy an Android smartphone here in Ireland, will it be possible for me to use it with a sim card from a different sim card (I spend a lot of time abroad and it's cheaper than roaming)?

Secondly, if it is possible, what phone would be a smart buy (pre-pay) at around €200?

    Many thanks for any help!

depends on what network you buy it with...
i got the htc desire from meteor and its not locked.
from o2 it is locked. dunno about other networks..

most of them its easy enough unlock, and costs 10 euro or something, you just get a code online.
either way depends on the phone itself, and the network for unlocking, not the fact its an android phone, so id say mention what phone(s) you are considering buying, assuming you have looked that far ahead

Only ones i can think of are the ZTE Blade (you'd probably have to source it form the UK) or the HTC Wildfire.

    Anyone else?

+1 ZTE Blade aka Orange San Fransisco, 99 stg plus 20 mandatory top up, plus free unlocks online.

Great phone with lots of custom roms and developer support making it even better!

I'd say it's the best price to spec ratio on any mobile phone ever without even the slightest bit of exaggeration. Camera's crap but I would've easily paid double for it.

I got the Galaxy S on o2 unlocked straight out of the box. The guy was nice enough to test it with a sim card before i committed to buying aswell. :)

I got the Galaxy Europa/I5500 from o2 aswell although that one is locked. Just ask them before putting down any money. I believe the Europa on meteor is unlocked and its a cracking little phone. only costs 99 quid aswell.

Lads I need a bit of help. Bought my sister a samsung galaxy y pro on with the intentions of unlocking it for her meteor SIM. Didn't research the phoe and presumed it would be a sinch to unlock as I have an SGS2 myself that I flash consistantly.

Are these code sites the best way to go about unlocking it? Was hoping to flash a new ROM but little to nothing is shiowing up even on the bible that is the XDA forums!!

    Help would really be appreciated!!

www.fastgsm.com is probably as good as you will get. The phone probably has one of the latest releases of Android. They charge $20(US) for most phones. All done via email in 30-40 mins.
