    Hello,

Does anyone use the 16 - 25 Railcard.

On the irishrail website it's says it gives a substantial discount on tickets. Does anyone know how it works.

    Thanks

I use it occasionally and it does make for considerable savings especially on peak journey time travel, a return rail ticket from Kerry to Dublin is €72 leaving in the morning and returning in the evening on peak time services; however with the railcard the cost is €52. You must have the railcard available for the ticket inspector or otherwise you will be charged the full fare and possibly fined.

However on some other services you are just aswell on a normal adult fare and through some glitch in their booking system railcard fares can sometimes be more expensive in which case you just book a normal adult ticket as normal.

The railcard costs €10 so if you use it only once a year you are already making a saving. Just fill in the form and post it into them with a passport photo and they will send it onto you.
