Would more than a coil pack be needed for this?

adding the wrong fuel isn't going to damage the coil.I would say there is more to it than that

right ... probably fuelpump gone as well as injectors + it needs fuel system cleaning

PS How the hell did he manage to fill it with diesel ?? Diesel nozes are bigger than petrol and they dont fit lol

I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. Let the seller repair and then sell it. Could be any of a number of things, most of which are expensive. If he/she knows its the coilpack, why not replace it, they're not that expensive and the car would be worth more as a result.

I phoned this add, the seller sounded well dodgy, he didn't wanna say anything. I asked him could I bring AA (who carry coil packs) and he wasn't having any of it. He gave me some BS about not being a mechanic and he just wanted rid of it.

He would be better off saying electrics or engine is fcuked.

diesel in a petrol generally causes less damage than petrol in a diesel. thats not to say it doesnt cause damage. blocked injectors/ fuel rail and what not.

my bargepole would be going nowhere near that.

just think about it, surely if it was just a coil pack problem, a mechanic would have snapped that up days ago to double his money

I think that's the other way around - diesel is thicker than petrol and would therefore cause more damage to a petrol engine.

I wonder is it a Flexifuel model and would it have done more damage than to a normal petrol engine, due to its set-up for running on bioethanol as well?

exactly ;) parts of the fuel system in a diesel use the diesel itself as lubricant because its slightly thicker, so when thinner petrol runs through it, it causes damage.

but i suppose petrol in diesel, or diesel in petrol your in big trouble either way

I read that as saying it was misfueled and needs a coil pack. Diesel won't burn in a petrol engine and if you persist in turning it over, it will eventually hydrolock, much the same as if water gets sucked in. I can't imagine unburnt diesel would be good for the cat either.
