Personal Referees

    I've recently been offered a job and have been forwarded an email to complete my last five years history as a background check before I start.

    However they are also asking for two personal referees:

    "We require the names and home addresses of 2 personal referees. These referees must be 'friends'. Family members, partners, tutors, employers and colleagues are not acceptable. In addition, they must have known you for a minimum of 5 years."

    Anyone know what the purpose of this is?

    Never heard of this before.

    Seems really odd to me, especially the home addresses part.

    On the other hand, you've been offered the job which is great. I'm sure you can get some buddies to help you out. Maybe have a little briefing session before.

    Probably not worth kicking up a big fuss about it.

    Sounds like you may have applied for a position within the security industry.

    If so , this is a part of the IS 999 standard for vetting within the industry.
