We have a 2 push button toilet and have just noticed that when either one of the buttons is pressed the system is not shutting properly and the water that should be refilling the cistern is in fact exiting through the toilet because the valve in some way is not closing. We have to push harder on the buttons to here the system closing. Do I need to replace the whole float valve and are they all standard?

is the water not shutting off at the ballvalve (inset) or is it the siphon not sealing the cistern properly (the flushing system)?

if its the inlet then its prob dirt in the ballcock tip or it needs a new washer

if its the siphon then u could try turning the washer around in it or else you will need a new siphon. also just check theres no dirt lying in the bottom that could stop the siphon from sealing. if you can get the same siphon then its a quick 2 min job and doesn't require any skills, if you cant then u might be best getting a plumber to do it.
