Best Amp For Price?

    Hi,

I'm hoping to buy a guitar amp from my local music store soon. They usually have a sale on this time of year.

I understand that a good amp is important but 400-500 euro is the max I'd be willing to spend.

I've been looking at the Fender Pro Junior (15 watt) and Marshall MG101FX (100 watt). I'll probably be buying a guitar with the amp, most likely a Telecaster if I can get a good deal.

How important is watt output in amps? The Fender amp has a lot less watts but is more expensive than the Marshall. Is it a better quality amp?

I'll be playing alternative/indie rock and maybe a bit of funk too.

If anyone has experience with either of these amps or can recommend an alternative in the price range your help would be appreciated.

The pro junior's a tube amp, and to be honest, it's miles better than the mg. I mean, years better.

15 tube watts is about as loud as the 100 watts solid state of the marshall, so they're both bloody loud.

Go to adverts.ie and look up the Fender Deluxe Hot Rod. Similar to the Pro Jr. just 40watts and a 12" speaker. As loud as you'll need and perfect for what you're looking to play. I have it and love it

+1 i agree, Hot Rod Deluxe is the man. And as loud as you'll ever need.

    amp wise i'd go for a vox vt20+(30 watt)+ or 40+(60 watt)+ or roland 20 cube(20 watt)
both are being lauded in the reviews and look built to last
the vt's are tube amps and have effects and models sounds built into them but the cube is just a plain amp but from what i've read are capable of matching the tube amps in tone
they are available for under €200 on thomann (both)but after p+p(€15) could come to just over that, leaves you enough to get the guitar as well maybe?
in shop might be €50 or 70 quid more?, depends on where u buy em?
i bought a vt recently and i am kicking myself for not getting one sooner

Thanks for all the advice guys.

I reckon I'm going to go for the Pro Junior out of convenience, I just hope the store still have it in stock! They don't have the Hot Rod Deluxe. I'll keep the Hot Rod Deluxe in mind down the line though if I find I need a new amp.

I'll be practicing mainly with it so it should be fine for my needs.

Something to keep in mind is that if you go for the Junior and are practising with acoustic drums, you'll probably need to mike it up if you want to keep any amount of a clean tone. You'll push the preamp too much trying to match the drums for volume with the Junior if you don't have something else to back it up
