Can anyone recommend a laptop please? All I need is something very very basic until my other one is fixed (god knows when that will be if the company ever get a move on!).

    Budget is €300 max.

    Thanks.

In the €300 range you would want to be looking at netbooks or second hand laptops.
Not sure you can get a new laptop for that money.

    What about €400?

If I couldn't get a laptop for €400 or less then I'd look at netbooks, but for the €300 price range, as I don't think a netbook is worth €400 imo, maybe I'm wrong though.

    Thanks for your help.

My recommandation would be to buy a secondhand Lenovo thinkpad T61 for around your price range.

    have lots of lenovos

A lenovo thinkpad will last alot longer than any new Acer or emachine laptop you can buy new.

    Thanks for your help.

I had no idea about Lenovo thinkpads. I always thought Acer, HP and Packard Bell were the best, you learn something new every day.:)

I recommend asus for eee pcs (euro 250-350).
But for full size laptop I'd save your money until you have at least 600-700 tbh.
I never buy a second hand laptop tbh. Desktops last longer than laptops.

    Thanks for the suggestions/help everyone.

Am going to have a look at the computer shops in town tomorrow (Mullingar) so will see what I can find, if anything.

Which of these netbooks would be best?

I don't know anything about the specifics of either netbook. Tbh, I don't know anything about computers in general.:o
