What to wear with my new brown brogues!

Okay, I bought lovely brogues in the River Island sale yesterday as posted in the 'purchases' thread. I have loved them for ages and was delighted to find them. But, now I have them at home, I cannot really match them with anything! Normally I wear blue skinnies or else dresses, and for work I wear pencil skirts and shift dresses. Would really like some suggestions, as I don't wear beige/cream/nude/peach, and they seem to be the only colours I can see going with them right now :(

Also tights wise, what colour should I go with? The old rule of not wearing black and brown seems to apply as well..

    Help!!

    i bought the very same.
i don't really wear jeans at all, ever. it's pretty much all dresses for me, though i quite like them with my denim shorts too. i definitely think they are wearable with black tights -also navy, maroon, green, grey... actually I pretty much think they go with everything. i'm sure there will be some lengths of dresses i won't think they work for. i don't think you need to co-ordinate with creams and beiges though-everthing in my wardrobe is green or blue or maroon!

one thing i'll say is that i'm wearing them and look down they look really big and clunky and offputting, but then in the mirror they're much more flattering... so trust the mirror :p

Really with black tights...I think it looks nice on people but when I do it it I think it looks odd! Thanks tho. A lot to be said for skirt length too, it really matters!

I wear my brogues with everything, honestly! Dresses, jeans, shorts, skirts - knee length and shorter.
Regarding brown and black, go for it. I do it all the time, but would always keep it simple and try match another accessory. For example, black dress with brown brogues and a brown belt, or black jeans, black top, brown brogues and a neutral (cream or camel) scarf.

I've seen them worn with little dresses, skinnys, skirts etc, they seem to be very versatile.

I saw one girl wear them with cropped black skinny jeans, that ended about 3 inches above the ankle and I thought they looked gorgeous, very vintage looking! :)

I've seen a few people wear them with peg leg trousers, but beware the hem length- if it isn't just so it can give a bit of a charlie chaplin effect.:p

I wear brogues quite a lot, and I honestly wear them with everything. I think those brown ones would look fine with blue skinnies. Sometimes when I wear skinnies with brogues, I wear pretty socks 'cause usually you flash a bit of sock!

As for the black and brown thing, like Twee said, that's okay. Just wear a brown accessory to tie things together. :)

Great advice folks..haven't worn them yet and tried them on in the shop with my blue skinnies but had pink socks with cat faces on them..not a good look :)

Will venture into wearing them soon..I had planned on wearing them more come the summer with ankle grazer jeans alright, more of a me look that one.
