I've taken this before for a short while felt better and stopped, Doc said i should try it for at least 3 months. nearly finished 1st month but have noticed in past few days i dont want to get out of bed and i'm crying a lot. Do anti-depressants work, i feel like im slightly better than i was 2 years ago, the thing i hate the most is feeling numb and no motivation to do uni assignments. logically i know i can but its like this emotional block prevents me. any advice would be appreciated.

Anti-Ds do work, otherwise they wouldnt be allowed on the market. They are not a complete fix and down days are expected while a person is taking them.
If worried ask your GP or Pharmacist

I was on Lexapro there for a while, I found that my depression lifted greatly. I still had dark thoughts but was better able to deal with them and it actually enabled me to see things in a more positive note. I actually came off them after a few months & didnt have any side effects. Thankfully the depression hasnt returned, yet with my illness it could stay away for months at a time only to come back with a bang. Where once I would have been very against the idea of any sort of medication I wouldn't hesitate to go back & request a prescription.

So you're not currently taking medication and feeling worse? I think the only thing I can suggest is to go back to your GP and tell him/her how you are doing atm and see what is said. Perhaps you might need to take the Lustral for a while longer.

Thanks for the replies. I am taking the medication but just wanted to know if anyone else had been on same or anti-d's before for at least 3 months and it worked for them. I don't want to rely on medication for the rest of my life if I'm still going to have bad days with medication or does this eventually go away?

Well yeah, I was on Lustral. It really is different for every person though, as far as I know. Maybe you would benefit from upping the dosage or something. Speaking to your GP would definitely be the best. :)

Im on lustral 50mg. Took a while to fell the full affects. Really doubted at the start that they would help. But after 6 weeks or so i began to feel an awful lot better.
Rarely even have bad days now after 5 months feel great, do much so that sometimes i almost forget to take them.

Keep taking them and if they dont work the doctor may try a differnet drug. In terms on being something for your whole life, if it works and your happy theres noting wrong with it.

It takes anti-d's a fair amount of time to work,my psych says anything from 8 weeks to six months to feel full effects. But mention to your GP that things haven't been going well and he may increase your dose or prescribe you another type of med.I was on Lustral a few months back but was switched to Celexa because Lustral was iterfering with my sleep and I am feeling much better now,but my psych says that even though I feel better I'll probably have to continue on these for at least a year.Anti-d's are not a quick fix and need time to work so try to be patient and take each day as it comes.
