Is there a ball float in your cistern?

Theres a plastic connection not really a ball float, it will lift but wont stop the water running

Is there an isolation valve on the pipework before it enters the cistern? If not turn off the water supply leaving the tank. Its usually one of the pipes near the bottom of the tank in the loft.

Thanks a million for the reply, will turning off the water at the tank turn off all my upstairs water ?

It sounds like dirt in your inlet float valve. Happens from the water being off...

Will happen to a lot more people.

Sometimes it corrects itself some times it needs correcting... Sometimes its just easer to get a new one.
