A friend of mine wants to get himself one of these. Was just looking at the auld video on Redwolf and I wondered what the story is with the various gasses here in Ireland? I got the impression from the video that propane would push the shells over but I always thought HFC134a was useless here.

I don't suppose anyone here actually has one to give an opinion.

On a somewhat related note is the import ban being enforced yet?

I don't own a Tanaka M870, but if you mosey over to the Shotgun Discussion there's a user called Gian who owns the Tanaka M870.

    Basically what I've heard is:
Absolutely amazing gun - extremely realistic, great feel, almost exact 1:1 with RS counterpart. Brilliant...until it dies. Until it dies beyond the point of repair. Literally. And apparently none are exempt from this bleak, and rather expensive fault.

And so, the recommended M870 is still the Maruzen. It's much much weaker, but it lasts and is built to a higher standard.

There is, however, hope for the Tanaka...it is apparently compatible with RS parts, which makes it much more repairable...although I am unsure as to the legalities of such

Sorry for the minor Necromancy but what exactly is it that fails?

As far as I know, it's part of the cocking mechanism that goes. I've seen pictures on arnies - basically the block of metal used is not quite a block, and so it bends until it breaks. But basically unless you can get one machined, or have access to RS parts, it's irreparable :(
