i was only out shooting for them once.two years ago i think when there was a fall of snow there must have been 60 or 80 of them landed one day on a large flat ground that always floods so we went in the next day and the noise of them but we couldnt get close enough for a shot

Sadly the days of large flocks of wild geese in the midlands are long gone thanx to the damage inflicted on traditional raised bog and turlough habitats by the likes of arterial drainage and the activities of Bord Na Mona from the 1950's-80's:(

Lots of geese around Skerries this morning - was out with shotty (after pigeons), but took only a photo of them cause was unsure if one could shoot them. Big fellas, and must have been 100 - 150 of them, they were very noisy and landed on field just behind me - impressive to look at ;)

A wise move not shooting them. They are Brent geese and they are protected........

There's a nice flock of Graylays not far from me on the shannon at the moment!
But due to the goose season being so short in the Republic, they are now out of season!

The goose hunting season is designed so that it closes before the wild geese arrive, so only feral Greylags and Canadas can be legally shot, as far as I know.

Speaking about Canada Geese, they're becoming an agricultural nightmare in many parts of north western Europe. Was out with old man ( central Belgium ) over the summer and the size of the flocks coming into tillage fields is just unbelievable. Lovely bit of meat as well, the breast meat panfried in the same manner as a thick cut steak is drop dead gorgeous.
