Great price! I got it about 2 months ago for 56 euro online! Prob the best bluray collection in 2010, recommended:)

Best blu ray conversion and set thus far imo the only issue is that philips blu ray players have a issue with the directors cuts on each disc where they dont play correctly , there isnt a firmware update yet to sort this as far as i know , but there is a quick workaround

    It's on special in HMV for €34.99 last time I looked . . . .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,511 ✭✭✭SK1979

Picked this up before Christmas from Amazon too. Absolutely fantastic conversion of (at least) two brilliant films. The picture on Alien is worth the price alone, its amongst the best Blu-ray pictures I've ever seen.

Superb review of the boxset here.

Fantastic price for the blu-ray of the year. I paid 60 odd quid for it when it came out. I knew it was going to come down in price but just couldnt' wait.

Not anymore it ain't, they wacked the price back up to 59.99 in store. well in Henry street anyway. Ordered it yesterday on the amazon myself with minority report and the dark knight on blu ray, total came to 57 euro. Funny that I can get 2 extra blu rays with the alien boxset delivered to my door for even less than the price HMV are currently charging just for aliens alone. How can this be justified ?.

Yeah I heard they were selling them for 35, but I went into the Henry street branch on xmas eve and it was still 59.99, in my opinion that particular branch is the worst for price differences, I could make a list of 10 products in the last year that were cheaper on Grafton Street. what branch did you snag yours at ?

Henry Street was definitely selling it for €35 as I saw it in there before Christmas and persuaded a guy in work to buy it. But your right about Grafton Street branch having cheaper stuff. The Back To The Future blu-ray box was €29.99 in Grafton Street but €49.99 in Henry Street.

This is definitely €35 in HMV Sligo too.

Cork only one here is patricks street , my dad picked it up for me he said 2 days later the price had went back up

    Another review here:
    http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Alien-Anthology-Blu-ray/5090/#Review

The Special Features alone will keep you going literally for days...
On every movie disc plus two more discs just for extras.

The new laptop savings might have to take a little dent :D

Also the old 1990 batman collection is 45 quid in henry , contrasting to 25 quid on Grafton. Staff are also less polite/ helpful on Henry .

    Ordered it there, **** it.
Might as well spend my money on something that doesn't get me twisted.

Can't wait to see Aliens in HD - "Stay frosty, people" !

Went to buy it in HMV in Swords after Christmas and they had bumped the price back up to €50.

Was in Blanch a couple of days later and picked it up for €35, so I'm sure it's still available at that price there.

Fantatic set, I watched Alien the other night, which looked superb and watched the other three back to back yesterday, plus some of the extras. The first two films look superb, with Aliens the biggest improvement from the DVD. The worst looking transfer of the four is Alien Ressurection, as well as being the worst of the four films.

I watched the directors cut of Alien 3, it's half an hour longer than the theatrical version, and I really liked it. I'd only eveer seen the theatrical release, and indeed only seen the film once and wasn't really impressed with it but the directors cut changed my mind on it.

The fourth one though is absolutely dire. It looks pretty poor too.

Just picked it up in HMV Cork for €35.
There are 3 left marked at €35, and 2 others marked at €50.

I've the 3 for €35 hidden behind the 2 for €50 if anyone wants one. They're up the stairs, turn 180, walk towards the back wall, and they should be on the second top shelf.

Looks like a great deal. I assume Anthology is pretty much the same as Quadrilogy, but on blu-ray?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,599 ✭✭✭ScrubsfanChris

    Cheers Soarer

Hopefully there will still be one there tomorrow morning :D

€59.99 in HMV Blanch, I guess they put up the price when they heard I was coming.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,194 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Nice job putting them aside  but no need as I was in there today & there were loads of copies marked at €35. I've already got Quadrilogy on DVD & was going to hold out until Anthology got cheaper but I couldn't resist :D I can't see it dropping below €30 for a good while yet anyway, just trying to justify my purchase :pac:

PS Looks like HMV had a good Xmas, not a copy of Inception or Avatar on Blu-ray to be seen.

I ordered a dvd boxset last Tuesday night and it arrived Friday
The return address was in Dublin where I'm guessing they have a warehouse.

Why are they so quick for you ? I ordered last week and got an- email yesterday saying they couldnt secure a payment. I cancelled the order and reordered yesterday and they take 4 days to even despatch my order , they estimate I wont recieve them untill 18 of Jan NOW ! PS there is sufficient credit on my visa and all the details are correct.

A few of the Quadrilogy dvd sets on play.com's marketplace for €15 too which is quite good.

There was an alien set where the dvds come in an alien head display case which looked great.

Maybe re-title it for the HMV price in Cork?

Or maybe, Ill ring up HMV headquarters and ask them why there is a significant price discrepancy between Cork and Dublin branches.:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 522 ✭✭✭Alfie1

Don't forget to ask why the same happens between the Dublin branches as stated earlier in this thread ;)

Actually though it seems that a few of the deals that are advertised for HMV in Dublin in the past haven't been available in Cork.
