Better to cut down than quit imo.

I´d like to know why you decided to quit....

I´m definitely cutting down on the quantity I drink...I´m not as much fun as I used to be drunk and I get weepy. Think it´s since I quit the smokes...drinking twice as much twice as fast to compensate. And the hangovers get twenty times worse.

I gave up booze and cigs when the smoking ban came in in my late 20's.

I'm no health freak but I'm undoubtedly physically, mentally and financially the better for it.

Thanks for that FF, now please call a general election, as my vigorous and energetic self wants you the hell out!

I find it really refreshing to give it up. Great feeling waking up on a Sunday with a clear head.

i'm off it for January more to get weight down and to enjoy my Saturdays & Sundays rather then hanging half the day.

although dinner smells nice and there is a good bottle of wine sitting on the table (must not give in.......)

I never started, and I am to stubborn to start now.

It never really bothered me, but what did is the way it bothers others!

I never started drinking for various reasons and never intend to. So i am unaware of how hard it is to give up. There is a negative stigma attached to non drinkers in Ireland but does not bother me.
Good luck O.P it might be awkward at social occasions but there are better and cheaper alternatives available.

That's a major problem in our society, we have an all or nothing approach to drinking. I know many people who would drink frequently but rarely get drunk.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,285 ✭✭✭tfitzgerald

I gave up drink last year :)Well ok it was only last Thursday but it was still last year, only joking I gave it up 2 years ago and I don't miss the hangovers one bit I also enjoy watching people make fools of themselves when they get drunk. I gave up because a ****rider (I refuse to call them joyriders) in a stolen car crashed into me I am on medication since

As mentioned before, I think the biggest problem I have with drink is binging. I find it very difficult to go to the pub to have a pint and watch a match, or something, without getting absolutely locked, drinking until 6am and then feeling severely guilty about it the next day. All or nothing is right, it's a curse!

Nothing worse than the guilt, i call it the Fear. It's the reason I don't drink until I pass out and wee the bed.
