I see a lot of talk about service history. Great advice to check for a good service history but you need to do more than that. You need to confirm the history with the garage that has stamped the book.

Service history's are 10 a penny online now. You can buy one to order for any car, reg and main dealer. In fact I've never seen so many cars for sale in Ireland with Full Service History.

99 Corolla, 120k miles, Full Service History!!!
Are we really to believe that even at 100k+ miles, the owner still paid the main dealer a fortune to service this 11 year old car? Possible but unlikely imo.

Service history was always a great thing in the UK, but we Irish . . . not so much - until the internet that is. hmmmm

For a full service history the work doesn't need to be done by a main dealer either

    True,

I looked at a car in the uk that had 'full service history', the history booklet was crisp and new with no marks on it, threw me off straight away. History over a 5 year period was filled in with the same biro and by the same hand  was full of main dealer stamps !. Made a few calls to verify history only to be told "that car is not on our system"

What a twat, wasting my day ! :D

Eh, if you're going to check the service history of a car you're best off actually ringing or calling in to the garage that did all the work. A paper booklet is worth jack $h1t. As people have already said EBay will provide a fully customised stamped up booklet for any car you want. I believe that BMWs since 2006 no longer actually come with a service booklet, all history is stored centrally. It may be the case with other manufacturers too.
As for the Corolla with a FSH up to 120k miles, why is that so unbelieveable? some people have misguided notion that you have to go to a Toyota dealer irrespective of the age of the car. It can go the other way too, an acquaintance of mine has a 2007 Range Rover Sport, I remember him carrying out an oil service himself on the car 2 years ago, I thought that was risky given it was still under warranty & that multiple claims had already been made on that particular car (steering box x3, fuel pump x2, 4 x alloy wheels, gearbox, mayabe more).
