Hi .Missus has been driving 2001 Scenic Diesel for last 6 months or so with not a hint of a fault .Its got closer to 150k than 100k(yes MILES!) yet seems to be refusing to die-or even hiccough(despite terrible reputation) !Just back from a long 'road trip' in which probably put up the best part of 1000 miles flawlessly .Anyway shes thinking of replacing it with budget of around 6k euro. While theres lots of lovely , interesting stuff out there eg C and E Class estates , Saabs , Volvos, 5 and 3 series estates ,Avensis /Corolla Verso Im not convinced she would be buying more inherent / guaranteed RELIABILITY even with a 2006 (certainly non jap).
It seems to me that sometimes ,just like you can have a 'Friday evening'/poorly manufactured car that everything goes wrong with you can have a good 'un that despite all common sense just keeps goin'.
Would probably prefer a diesel and not necessarily that bothered by 'big tax' but open minded .Must be at least as big as the Scenic which is v roomy with individually removable rear seats and underfloor cubby holes etc .
All suggestions most welcome ...links to actual cars for sale even better .Thanks !

You are unlikely to have mechanical trouble with either of those 2 cars. My next car will be Honda or Toyota. Since I left them and bought European cars, nothing but problems.

Apart from the swirl flaps in the Toyotas, and Honda's CDTi is not meant to be as reliable as its petrol equivalent.

A petrol Accord would be bulletproof though, and to be fair the Honda diesel is reliable for a modern diesel.

Well, you've just proven that a Renault is reliable - all you need now is for someone to match it......... :).......not as easy a task as it seems!

There is no such thing as guaranteed reliability.....there is only a a guarantee to fix it.....;)

Tbh, I'm sorry we sold our old 00 Scenic........I have a Saab diesel now which is lovely, but, tbh, the Scenic was head-and-shoulders above it, usefullness-wise. No estate comes close, no matter what the badge. I even got a motorbike in it, once, standing up ! :p

We looked at Verso's too, and tbh, they're not that roomy either either, and the seats arent as good. YMMV and all that......

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

What does she want that the Renault doesn't offer?

Mmm, i'd think hard before selling a car that was meeting all my needs.

You will be effectively replacing a car that has proved itself to be trouble free.

I would hang on to it myself. At least get the next car thoroughly checked out.

You would be kicking yourself if you replaced your current car with a lemon!
