    Why do some companies offer free webspace with no adds?
    Is there a catch?

    take your pick from some or all of the following (but not always)
    * very limited bandwidth,
    * very limited space,
    * adverts,
    * no ftp,
    * no server side programming
    * no databases

    The companies would probably also be skimping on support and backups.

    As the others have said, you get what you pay for!

    A free host is fine if you have no traffic. Once people start coming to your site, it will go slow, and eventually go down.
