As someone else mentioned, you will get ripped off buying physical silver in Ireland. Buy online, there's heaps of sites.

Why not give http://goldmoney.com/index.html a go. They don't do physical delivery but have good storage charges and are very easy to deal with.
I know you can buy silver VAT free in the Netherlands and ship it to Ireland (inter EU) so look into that.

I'd be of the opinion that when it comes to PMs, you dont own it unless you physically possess it!

I have my 1oz silver coins over in the US with family. How many are you looking to buy?

I also own physical, but limit the amount i'm willing to keep in a private residence for security reasons. Not all your eggs in one basket yada yada yada :)

Ok so what is the deal with carrying silver in to Ireland. Does it have to be declared and will it be taxed? I mean if you purchase it in Germany you will pay VAT at source surely. Are you then taxed again on entering Ireland. If so then maybe it is worth storing in a deposit box in foreign lands. But I can tell you now I would be personally be travelling to Germany or wherever to personally place the coins in the box and taking the key.

Would you fully trust having your silver arranged to be physically delivered to a saferty deposit box over the internet? Was it not the goldsmiths that invented fractional reserve Deposits? Let's face it, if one wishes to diversify into precious metals it could be to hedge against inflation or it could be due to a fear of a collapsing euro and economic meltdown. In the case if the latter well if there isn't enough physical silver to back deposits on paper well that would just collapse too.

I would just rather hold physical silver. So what happens if I try to bring 100 coins through Dublin airport?

There is free movement of goods within the EU so you certainly will not have to pay tax on your silver when brining it into Dublin.

You should of course have your receipt with you in case the snoopers at the airport ask any questions.

The other consideration is anti-money-laundering issues, but I believe the limit is €10k before you have to declare it. A little homework should confirm everything for you.

...and you are absolutely spot on about holding physical. That Silver ETF (SLV) is completely fraudulent.

Best of luck with your purchase, and let us know how you get on.

You should consider an exchange traded commodity.

The db-X ETC provides exposure to the silver spot price. Exchange code: XSIH
