    speaks for itself really.

thankfully nothing was taken, but the result of it is that i cant lock the car anymore. lock's so busted that the key cant get into the keyhole, and no keyhole on the passenger side.

anyways, considering going to a scrapper and getting a new door handle and a key, but im hearing stories that i have to reprogramme/replace the whole central locking mechanism if i do that. the cars a 98 avensis if thats any help.

can anyone throw some light on this situation? its frustrating the hell outta me.
    thanks :)

You will have to get a new Key barrel in the door from a Toyota garage. I wouldn't think you'll have to reprogramme anything.

EDIT 6666 post count what does that mean:pac:

this seems to be on the rise out my way(tallaght). i found a jack and wheel brace beside my car a few days ago. had a look round the car and the lock on the passenger side was busted.

i would imagine that the central locking will still work , even with the new key
you will need the old key to start the car though

im tending to avoid dealers these days, lack of funds etc. but if needs must, and if i gotta be able to lock me car, i might as well.

whelans car breakers in portlaoise got a boot lock and a key for my old corsa for 30 quid (yep, not the first time this happened me) :(
hopefully they'll do it for a snazzier car, but dealers are plan b
    cheers!

Its going to be cheaper to go to a dealer. Scrap yard route, boot barrel, ignition barrel, door barrel, and key and then you will have to go to a dealer to get the key coded.
The main dealer route. Get a new door barrel and thats it!

the door lock buttons on the inside of the door still work fine.
oh, having two keys to run the car is a small price to pay for a bit of security

a little bit less id reckon, the worst of commissioning a new barrel though is there can be waiting times of weeks and weeks.

Replaced a barrel on a Corolla with barrel from a Toyota main dealer was only €30 odd, was then a seperate key to open the door and the original to start it. Not sure on central locking situation as it didn't have any to start with.
