I took the plunge recently and bought a W114 on ebay. Described as a nice 'restoration project' it has certainly lived up to its promise :).

I've uploaded some pics here http://www.flickr.com/photos/51262884@N05/sets/72157625589667271/with/5310329358/ so you can get a feel for how it's progressing but now I have a shopping list of parts and was hoping a boardie might be able to steer me in the right direction.

    So far I need,

A Mercedes Star Emblem for the front bonnet
    Chrome hubcaps
    Interior Carpet
    Interior Matts
    Front Windscreen
    Rear Windscreen
    Front Windscreen Rubbers
    Rear Winscreen Rubbers
    Drivers Door Rubbers
    Passenger Door Rubbers
    Boot Rubbers
    Front Bonnet Pegs
Sound Proofing for under the bonnet

and that's before the mechanic gets at it. Any advice would be much appreciated. I've been trawling ebay and other sites but thought that there might be a W114 owner out there with some good advice before my Paypal account gets hammered.

    Thanks,
    Shane.

You would be surprised what you can still get off a Merc dealer for those cars, worth a shout anyway. I like the green roof. Best of Luck with it.

If they're anything like Audi parts the first thing you should buy is a large tub of vaseline :D

I've got some of the bits you need. I think Forest Fine have gone out of business but before you buy anything, check the price from a dealer first. They're not as expensive as everyone thinks.

good on you Shane, i love those W114s, i had a 230.6 saloon for a couple of years previously. Is your coupe a 250 or a 280?

as Tommyboy40 posted DBdepot are a good source, and i can also vouch for
    http://www.lichtenberg-classics.ie/

good luck with the resto, and keep us posted

Lovely car and nice work so far.
I've used dbdepot as mentioned earlier, and I used a guy called Rob Parker in the UK. He trades on ebay as threepointed parts. Dunno if he'll have 114/115 bits though.
I have also used Mercedes in Northern Ireland (Agnews of Portadown). Robert Dundas is the parts man and he's very helpful. 048 38337373.

And heres a set of hubcaps from Walter Nieuwkoop in the UK :pac:
    http://www.classicmercedesbenz.co.uk/inventory.php?catg=2

Mercedes Benz of Poole also get high reccomendations, the man to speak to is Mervyn Wright,01202 641855.

And lastly, I trawl ebay.de for bits. Gotta be careful with some items though, obviously headlamps and mirrors, but also items like exhaust downpipes with extra kinks and mods (due to steering boxes etc)
If you are a member of the Mercedes Club, you get access to the EPC (parts catalogue) and can check out the numbers. You might find common items across the range, maybe a w123 badge would fit your car.
    Best regards
    Gerard

    Hi,

Nice car best of luck with it.

When I had my w114 ( 280 ) I used to use a lad here in Clarehall to get me parts much cheaper than the bloody dealer !

http://www.lichtenberg-classics.ie/ - Ben is the lad there.
Nice lad - handy with a spanner and none of your typical classic parts dealer thievery !

By the way - Merc dealers claim they can get you any part for any Merc ever produced. I never found them wanting ( anything other than the contents of my bank account ;-) )

Thanks for the advice. I'll be calling around later this week for some pricing. What pieces do you have? Looks like the rubbers are going to be the first to go.

Thanks for the advice Gerard. I came across the Poole guys also - they seem to have a bit of a reputation as the vintage specialists in the UK.

Which Mercedes club were you referring to? This one? http://www.mercedes-benz-club.co.uk/public/home.htm. Would be nice to have access to the Part Numbers all right.

TC20 - Mines the 280CE with the 'Porsche Killer' engine. Ben had a look at it a couple of months ago for me. Whilst the engine was pretty good he thought the body was too far gone but I didn't want to give up without a decent fight. It's in Donegal at the moment being worked on but I was thinking of giving Ben a call to sort out the mechanical end when it's ready. What did he do for you in the past?

    www.sls-hh.de
Is another German site worth a look when it comes to classic Mercedes parts.

Yes thats the one, I'm in the club (Leinster Branch) just over a year now, and they're a nice bunch.

My advice is to be sure it is worth spending the cash on those items. Check the bodywork first for rust and more rust. There are plenty of sites that highlight the rust areas.

Many of the items you've listed are cosmetic and expensive and your cash could be better spent, for example, on getting rust fixed in the front bulkhead or rear quarters.

ah, the one to have ;)

I had sold on my W114 before i came across Ben, but bought a W123 280E from http://www.prestigeclassiccarsales.ie/ - Ben is partnership with them and looks after all the servicing/restoration side of things. Very nice guy to deal with, and as mentioned above, reasonable rates and quality work. He's done all the servicing since i've had the W123 (nearly 3 years). I had the suspension overhauled (new shocks, springs, etc) during the summer, and the car is running perfectly.
