I'd say a lot of places will be closed. Liffey Valley centre is shut all day.

Some shops are definitely open, I remember buying some jeggings in Oasis St Stephen's Green on 1st Jan last year

Completely depends on the store and shopping centre ! Blanchardstown is closed but regional centres like the whitewater and kildare village are open. It is not even a brand wide decision the company I work for say 5 out of the 30 stores are open. Its not the best day to go shopping.

I worked itw twice, unbelievably boring. Shops make barely any money on it and have to pay public holiday pay- it also cost my Dunnes €14k to open the shopping centre so they stopped bothering. This is why shopping centres don't open for the sake of 1 or 2 big shops. Brown Thomas definitely opens- strangely Monsoon and A-wear (grafton street) do as well. M&S does not, clerys doesn't. I can't remember if it's debenhams or arnotts that opens, one of them anyway. Very very few other places. No Dunnes in town is open at all except Georges St. Not really worth it going in.
