    Hi Guys,

Just need some advice here. Im 25, living at home with my folks. They havn't been getting on well for the past 10 years or so, and its gotten to the stage where they barely acknowledge each other. All i see is disapproving head shakes, or sighs or teeth gritting every day of the week.

My dad works alot and when he's at home he sits around alot, my mother has a hobby and seems to be the only things that makes her happy. Other than this my dad storms around, asking me 'would ur mother like this'? 'what wrong with that women?' , these are ****e dinners. Im nearly sure they're so petty that they do things to get up each others noses. But they never fight!!! its just an awkward silence, which being the only one at home, i feel like ive to mediate!

My mood is very reflective of the atmosphere in the house and this is causing problems with my GF. I have no job and cant claim social welfare or any kind of allowance yet so i cant get out. Its mental torture!! What shud i do?????

Please, any advice would be appreciated.

    Hi Dunbar,

I am not 100 % certain of what to advise but I acknowledge that what you are dealing with is very hard. My parents have fought all their lifes and yet they remain together, i think they always will, I have overed tehe years listened to both their grievances about each other and tried to help and resolve it, but to be honest I have stopped trying and maybe that's what you should do.

I detach myself from 'their' relationship problems, because they are 'their' relationship problems. I know it is upsetting for you to see your parents in this way but I think it might be better if you just let them live their life and you live yours. Be a friend and son to them but you shouldn't be the mediator of their relationship. Also talk to your girlfriend about it, I'm sure she understands, and go and enjoy time, your time, your life time with with her and friends, best of luck :)

You should ask your parents to attend marriage guidance. I personally could never have a "personal" conversation with my parents, it's just the type of them. But maybe you have a good enough bond with one of your parents that you can ask them to admit there is a problem and they should work through it.

I agree with above, i think the rest is up to your parents thereafter.

Never interfere in other people's relationships.

And get out of there. Theres always jobs in the horse racing or breeding industry. Even if you can't ride, you'll nearly always find a job mucking out, often live in.

Why don't you volunteer locally to get out of the house?

Even better learn to cook and take that pressure off your mam. Do you help around the house?
