At that time of the year you will find plenty of places all across southern europe suitable for your own needs. i reckon the reckon the best value is to be found by booking everything indepently as in every large town in europe there is often a municipal athletics stadium better than most in this country. Am currently in maspalomas (mainly cycling but also a small bit of running on the track) and have been able to use the track and shower facilities for three days now without anybody saying anything to me. i had checked with locals and they said there is occassionally a €2 charge for use (which i would be prepared to pay if asked) and obviously couldnt use the track if in use by any of the teams based there. the beach is also absolutely massive and plenty of training options there.
i also stayed in tenerife last year and it was pretty much similar circumstances in puerto de la cruz / los realejos.
the biggest advantage of training in these tourist resorts is the logistics - cheap flights, good transport logistics and plenty of accommodation options. if like me you are paying out of your own pockets all these have to be considered, but if someone else is picking up the tab by all means go to one of the commercial centres ie club la santa (lanzarote), playistas(fuerteventura) or through nirvana europe
the only problem about the canary island is the 4 hour flight as it eats into your schedule and could possibly lose two days depending on arrival & departure times. i can't really help you with regards other locations as i haven't been but remember all you need is access to a good track, a good gym and self catering accommodation (athletes need to be wary of the all you can eat buffet) everything else is a bonus.
If you need any other help just PM me.

Overly expensive if you have your own program and know your own schedule

    Thanks. Everything noted.

The charge for the track ain't too bad either considering the €7 charge the Morton Stadium have for using the track.

The trip will most likely be half funded by myself and my club.

I've never gone away for warm weather training before so of course this is all new to me.

I have been outside that place twice while on holidays in Lanzarote. It always struck me that the landscape of the surrounding area would be a bit barren for interesting long-distance runs or cycles, sea-views excepted of course. Seems to be quite a windy place too. No much distractions over that side of the island mind you. I heard Jenson Button the F1 driver saying he was going to it a few months ago for that reason.

just back from a weeks break in lanzarote and have to say it's a wonderful place for running.

i was injured for 5 weeks after DCM2010 and hadn't ran with the feckin snow etc. before flying out last week. While I wasn't at Club la Santa (I was in the hills over Playa Blanca in the south of the island) I ran every day while out there and it really restored my joy for running. There is a fantastic promenade in Playa Blanca which then leads to a longer series of sea cliff trails that then lead to a series of the best beaches on the island at papagayo which make for an absolutely epic run (did a 12/13 run one day when I had only intended to do 5-6 because I was enjoying it so much). I loved the landscape and didn't find it boring at all - completely different to Ireland - oh and the weather is nice too :)
