ITunes problem (won't import CD)

I have over 12,000 songs in my Itunes directory and all were imported ok so this is a new problem. Basically Itunes is recognizing this particular CD, imports the songs into the correct directory on my Mac so the songs are there but they aren't showing up in Itunes and aren't found when I use the search music function.

When I right click on the file in the directory and click 'open with' Itunes it doesn't play it. However they will play from the CD in Itunes when I select a song from it in the Devices part of the menu. But I can't get then into my library.

Anyone any ideas? (There's tonnes of space on my hard drive as well)

EDIT: I found a way around it (converted M4a files to mp3s and imported them that way) but I'd still like to know what the problem was with importing them direct from the CD as i always do.

Is it a copy protected CD? I think they went out with the dinosaurs (If they were ever "in"), but its the only thing I can think of.

Try right-clicking or (ctrl-clicking) on one of the tracks in your library, choose 'Show in finder', when the finder window opens, double click on the track and see what happens. If the track is properly located in the iTunes library it should start to play in iTunes. If for some reason during the import session, the tracks from the CD were copied to a different location, it should 'copy' them from their current location to the correct location.

I tried that. As i said it was going into the right directory on my Mac, it just wouldn't come into the library. When i tried to open the files with Itunes as the program, the icon in Itunes blinked but the sing wouldn't play. Although when I opened with realplayer, they did.

It's sorted now since I converted the files to mp3s, burnt them to a disk and imported them from that.

Sounds really strange! Don't think I've heard of an issue like that before.

Did iTunes seek & retreive the track details from Gracenote during import?

Were they AAC's before conversion to mp3 ? Was it an Enhanced CD ?

[Edit] Just spotted in OP they were M4a's......still really strange that they were copied from the CD to the directory, but not showing up in the iTunes library.

Yeah. When the CD showed up in Itunes it had the names of the tracks etc. It was Ash A-Z Vol. 2, just a standard edition CD.
