Boil some milk, add a teaspoon of turmeric, and drink.

    Repeat, as necessary.

    It will help.

Its not the best night of the year. Its the most over-rated night of the year!

And i also have a flu... sipping hot lemon as i type. It helps for about 4 seconds....

The "flipping flu" never had that. Sounds a bit crazy

How many times does it have to be said.

If the pain in your cranium isn't bad enough to prevent you lifting your head and focusing your eyes on the screen and the chronic aching of every bone, muscle and fibre of your being isn't preventing you from tapping the keyboard with your fingers.........

Basically, if you can do anything other than lie in bed wishing you were dead........

THEN YOU DON'T HAVE THE FCUKING FLU!!! :D

The Flu is serious sh1t. Most people up to the age of 30 or more may only have had it once or twice in their life.

For every 100 threads you read where someone 'Has the flu'. If your replace the word Flu with Cold/Sore Throat, you will be right 99 times out of 100.

    :D

Dunno about that. I, for one, have never had a cold sore on my throat.

Merry the night away with hot port, all the while plotting your family's murder.

Or else man the hell up. Don't be afraid to go out. As my ole (now deceased) granddaddy used to say, they won't be worrying about the sniffles when they wake up with the syphilis.

I had it once for two weeks. At the height of it I couldn't even sip water without puking it back up.

+1, I have never had the flu though over the years I have had loads of people diagnose me as having it

I am sick right now, a sort throat and cough. I wonder what these boys who cry wolf would actually self-diagnose if they got the real flu. "I have the bubonic plague mixed with a bit of AIDS and the flesh eating virus, and I'm clinically dead"

This is my fourth year in a row with the flu at Christmas. I am well and truly sick of it. It's partially my own fault as I had intended getting the flu jab in November but I didn't do it. This will be the last year that I make that mistake.

Flu is living death for 3/4 days at its peak, before and after its still bad enough to leave you pondering the merits of assisted suicide.

I've had the man flu before, very bad stuff! OP, have a few drinks and you'll be ok for tonight. Is it acually man flu you have or just a cold?

What is man flu ? My wife was on the phone to her sister and described me as having "man flu". I had a big row with her about it. Do all women think that men are faking the flu ? Next time my wife is having her period, I will describe her as being "in the rags" and see how she likes it...

Your link made me chuckle thanks, but I still object to the assertion that men are constantly over-exaggarating flu symptoms. It's women who act up all the time, not men !

Yea they're not feeling well every second week!!
Then when a man get's man flu they compare it to when they were sick, usually about 6 days ago and got over it the next day!
    They're very, VERY clever.:p

I've had a the flu maybe 5 times in my 40 odd years on this earth and yep there's a pretty big diff between it and a headcold. Real pain in the arse being that the 5th time is/was the last week, since xmas eve. At its peak I couldnt think straight, never mind function. I mean literally trying to form a cogent thought in between the bouts of fever and general "I'm fcuking dying here" feelings was near impossible. It's like being completely and sickeningly drunk. Inc the black outs. I'm past the peak of it but Christ I'm still suffering and am maybe getting an hour of being relatively OK followed by being knackered for two hours after.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Yup, I've only gotten the flu once that I can remember.
I'd say 95percent of us Irish call a cold the flu though. I sounds better when you go to ring in sick to work.:D

So you probably feel like how your avatar looks then :D

Seriously though OP, if you had 'the Flu' the illumination from your Laptop/PC screen would drive your ICP (Intracranial Pressure) through the roof. So if you're online it can't be that bad

Thing about the flu is if you have a weakish immune system it can linger for weeks. It can also be fatal if you ignore it & try to go about your usual routine. It is after all a fairly aggressive virus that would kill you in a matter of days without the bodies natural defences.

Annoying cough or sore throat. sneezing - you have a cold. Give over

Sore head, aches, chills, fever, prolonged tiredness - thats the flu. Bed for you.

I have worked in bars and shops 12 hours a day serving the public for the last 20 years. I have hundreds of people a day from all walks of life breathing on me, touching me with hands they sneezed in while paying me, and coughing near me all day, 365 days a year for over 20 years.

I get a cold and/or sore throat at least once or twice every year without fail.

    I've had the Flu once!!

Flu every year for the last 4 years???

    Are you a Doctor/Nurse?
Do you work in a biotech lab at the forefront of Flu research?
Are you the unluckiest man in Ireland to be diagnosed by a doctor with the flu every year for the last 4 years?

    Or..........??

Did you self diagnose and in fact you have never had the flu and its bad colds, tonsilitus etc you are getting every year which are bad enough as it is but because you have nothing to compare to and you can't imagine feeling worse than you have felt these last 4 years, well you just assume it must be flu. When you finally do inevitably get the flu, believe me you will realise it is possible to feel a hell of a lot worse than you have ever felt before and from then on you will definately know the difference between a Bad Cold and the Flu.

I blame 'UniFlu' for half the confusion. ie. Uniflu, the Cold/Sorethroat remedy symtom reliever. :D

The other half of the confusion comes from the fact that people think the flu is very common because they hear about it every year on the news. Its not on the news because its common or that you have a high probability of catching it, its on the news because its a serious dose that can kill and if a pandemic breaks out, it does become 'Common' and you better watch out!!

So combine peoples belief thats its common and they'll get it every year with the reality that very few have ever had it before but that bad colds do do the rounds every year which they will indeed inevitably catch. Well with nothing to compare to people just assume they got the flu that everyone is talking about.

Funnily enough, got a bit of a headache goin on, I'm tired and me nose is feeling congested. I reckon I have the flu and am going to head to the Doctors to demand some antibiotics. ;):D

If you really did have the flu 3 years in a row I doubt you would have forgotten your intention to get the jab. That would be like me saying I suffered chronic hypothermia & frostbite the last 3 times I left the house, and I have it once again, even though I intended bringing my jacket & gloves with me this fourth time -I think I would have remembered them by now. But my frostbite & hypothermia is the same as most peoples self diagnoses of flu, I really mean a bit chilly and they mean a bit of a cold.

I dunno if the jab will do you any good, I don't think it protects against colds at all -thats another thing I hear, lads in work moaning that "that flu jab did nothing, I have the flu now" as they sit in work with a sniffle....

If you have a chesty cough, headache AND aches and pains in your muscles, is it more likely a bad cold or the flu ?

I think what confuses people is when you have a bad cold the constant sneezing & coughing makes your chest/shoulder muscles sore after a while

If you had the flu, the proper flu you'd be feverish, slight delirium. Cold one minute, boiling the next. You'd be in bed & not up & about.

disclaimer; this is not medical advice so don't blame me if you die...

Women at my work place abuse the sick system to get more holidays and then whinge about their husbands having manflu. They ring in sick with sore throats having been in the day previous and nothing wrong with them

OK people are affected differently, but for me anyway other than the severity of the thing, with the flu I dont get nearly so much of the sneezes and snotters of a head cold. It's more massive weakness, way more of a temperature(and variability therein) and allover aches. A bodyache, not so much pain. Oh and you really do feel like death. No comfort at all.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Reminds me of something an old employer once said to me. He said he didnt like hiring women as they liked taking too many days off "and when they're not sick, they're pregnant"

For me flu included wondering if my heart would take it. If you aren't considering your mortality then you don't have the flu.

Flu is when you can barely move your head or the room spins around.

I had the flu once 5 years ago while completing my thesis and I lost 1 stone in a month. If you look at photos of me taken before and then again one month later, I looked like someone deflated me like a balloon. I couldn´t keep anything down. I couldn´t leave my bed and had to hand write it from my bed because I´d no computer and typed it out when I finally had the energy to make it to the university. On top of that, I got cystitis, which means you feel going to the loo but can´t. It was easily one of the worst months of my life.

I've a chest infection now and by god the flu makes it look like heaven.
