Some of you may have noticed that the number of Renault Main Dealers seems to be deminishing as part of a restructuring of the network to bring it in-line with the rest of Europe. What you now have is a reduced number of main dealers with sub-dealers who answer to them...Well as of the 4th Jan ,Bill Cullen has walked away from Portlaoise Renault not wanting to be a sub dealer having to answering to another dealer who will be the regional main dealer for the area.....Now get this--in 2002 Bill Cullen open his new branch in Portlaoise to Fanfare,,party,,Pat Kenny to open etc etc..
In 2010/11, he hasnt even made an appearance himself, relying on other donkeys to break the news to his staff, some of who have been there since 2002--who luckily have kept there positions under the new owners.
I think that it is of the highest bad form for for this very public employer(aka Apprentice etc) who preaches about Employer Ethecics etc , that he doesnt even have the Decency to come down to Portlaoise himself to met the staff to explain the situation himself in person and thank (OR AT LEAST ACKNOWLEDGE)the staff for all their years of service
    SHAME ON YOU BILL CULLEN

I've never once heard Bill Cullen speak of employer ethics, and given that he's an arrogant asshole at the best of times on the apprentice I'd go out of my way not to work for him.

I didn't need this thread to damage my opinion of Bill Cullen because frankly he's practically bankrupt, morally and reportedly financially, and my opinion couldn't go any lower without him raping or murdering someone.

All the staff also know that they have been shafted out of redundancy also as it took 2 months to figure out how they were going to get around it----"transfer of undertakings" was the phrase that was mentioned

That's the most common way a business is sold. He's not shafting anyone there.

You still have your job. Why do you feel you have been shafted out of redundancy?

    You're Fired!

they should be glad to be rid of him

and that they are keeping their jobs with a new employer who might treat them a bit better

When the staff were originally told they were told that more than likely it would be a redundancy situation as the new owner did not want to be responsible for any future redundancy payout possibility up to that point, which would make sence. If the thing goes belly up in 1 years time, I'm sure the new owner wont want to pay redundancy going back until 2002:confused:

Just getting away from the real issue...The staff are delighted to have rid and are looking forward to moving on with their new employer to by all reports does look after his staff
The real issue is that he just hasnt made a personal appearance/letter himself,,,,,,,not that they really expected him to anyway:rolleyes:!!!!!!!!!!

Who in their right mind would want to meet Bill Cullen anyway?
Anyway how is he supposed to get to Portlaoise now that he had to get rid of the chopper?

Ah it was really just the principle(or obviously lask of) OF HIM SAYING farewell to his staff,,,rather than his donkeys doing it for him:mad:

Is it that Bill owns the place? Why would he bother his arse meeting the staff to give them that news? Surely he has a manager there or something to do all that. Lots of people own businesses and never darken their doors. Bills no different.

Oh, and I'm no Bill Cullen fan myself (except on Gift Grub :D). I'm just pointing out its pretty standard practice

As Roosterman says, he has managers that are paid to manage his business. This is no different to any other situation where a business is bought and sold. It's not family owned and run, a mom and pop type operation, it's just a franchised dealership at the end of the day as far as Cullen will be concerned.

People like Bill Cullen never get to where they are by handling these sorts of things themselves - they pay people to take care of running the business, so their time can be spent working at a higher level. Would it really make ANY difference to people to have him effectively waste his day going to give them the news and would the local employees not be better off hearing it from the managers they answer to each day?

Personally I'd rather hear that kind of news from someone who knows me and how I'm likely to react than from someone I've had no dealings with. That's the normal way this kind of thing works - Decisions are made elsewhere, but communicated via local management. It's no different in High Tech and Healthcare sectors etc.

A transfer of undertakings is standard practice. It doesn't mean anyone's going to be shafted, sacked etc. A local decision may need to be made to lay off staff but again that's just a harsh reality of the times we live and work in where a business needs to make tough calls to ensure survival.

With respect John, I think it's a song and a dance over nothing - The Cullen bit anyway. :o

But that's *exactly* the business persona Cullen harps on about, with his penny apple bull****. Insufferable, unbearable old bollocks.

Thats really what I'm try to saying. He portrays himself as such a man of the people with humble beginnings etc etc, but in reality is is now so far removed. In reality we never really expected it,,but even the written notification of intent didnt even have his name on it......oh good ridance .Ok maybe I'm starting a thread over what some might see as petty,,,,,,,but I'm only human

    What, like Bertie Ahern?
Just because someone gives off the impression of being one thing doesn't mean that they aren't the complete opposite.

This kinda craic isn't new to Bill, I know of one other dealer he has forced shut in the last 2 years.

Sure why would he care, the recession will never hit him near hard enough.

Oh it will, Bill is fcuked. Sure, he'll screw creditors, but he's fcuked.
