TI3 play by forum

Hey guys, as some of ye may know, I'm a massive TI3 fan. One of the biggest problems with the game is that it's so difficult to get six (or, dare I say it, 8) players together to play a game. One possible solution is play by email, or play by forum.

The game is played as normal, except one player is required to GM (I will do this for the first game). TI3 is not optimal for PBEM, certain things tend to tie it up, like for example the sabotage action card or the secondry abilities of strategy cards. But it certainly is doable.

Aiming to get at least a couple of actions in per day, you are still realisticly looking at at least a month to get a game in.

The advantages are that it gives you a bit more time to think about things, we can actually get a game in! and it leaves the diplomacy aspect of the game much more open due to the wealth of private communication options available to us. PM, E-Mail, whatever.

How this works, I as the GM, will (much to my chagrin) be unable to play (As I will be rolling the dice, and be privvy to all the players hands of action cards etc). You will require your own copy of the game. You will be expected for example to know the text of action, diplomacy, strategy and objective cards etc. I would prefer that all players in this first game have at least played a couple of games (even with their mates) of TI3 in the past. I would prefer to use the SE expantion (And optional rules can be decided on before the game starts). I will most likely host a wikimap to allow other players to see what's happening (example).

Is anyone interested in giving this a shot, or does anyone have any questions about how this would work?

If I had the game I'd love to try it. PBF really intrigues me but most games played are on American forums and the time difference can make it awkward.
Unfortunately I never picked up TI3 as I struggle to get mates to play 2 hour games. :(

I know how you feel. Luckilly some of my friends are big sci-fi junkies, so it's possible to talk them into a game every couple of months. I would go back to my days of playing it once a week if I could! Hence the idea.

It looks like it's just a little too soon for this to take off but in a couple of months I plan to pick it up and would love to play.

It got me thinking though. Maybe as a way to draw some casual attention to the forum we could perhaps organise some play by forum (moderated by pm's) games of werewolf.

Quite possibly. There are a few games that would work pbf (eg Battlestar Galactica)
