I get a loud thump noise from the attic since all these water restrictions were put into place. I had water over the freeze up, my problems started when the water was cut off.

While I never ran out of water and conserved it when mains was cut off, now when I turn on the hot water tap, it sounds as if the noise is coming from the attic like the ballcock or maybe water hammer? giving a thud sound when the tank is filling.

Looking at other posts, I read about this water hammer but I would imagine that would happen if the whole system was drained down and filled up again.

We need expert advice here. Your problem sounds like central heating pipes, but I am no expert.
