    Hi all.

I'm looking for rims for my 99 Landcruiser, something small that I can fit big chunky tyres to to give it a monster truck look. I was thinking 14's and then a nice set of high profile BFG A/T's.

Problem is I cant find rims like this anywhere!?!?!?! I know they can be got, you see them on yokes all over the place. Any suggestions?

Some 4x4's won't take a rim that small because the brake disc and caliper is too big.

Nigh on impossible to get a 14" rim too.

You should be able to get 15inch steels on ebay.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but 15" rims will foul the brakes as well on a 90/95 series LC.
    You need a 16" minimum.

The monster truck look is usually achieved on 4x4s with suspension lifts to give the required clearance for larger tyres. I have a 2" lift on my Defender and run on 255/85R16 tyres that are about 33" diameter. Going bigger to 35 or 37" requires a bigger lift and affects handling. This can be done on Landcruisers as well but isn't straightforward or cheap, kits are usually from the US or Australia.

To give you an idea, just a 2" lift on a Defender cost me around £750 in parts to do it properly inc extended brake lines, decent shocks, wide angle prop etc.

Do a bit of research on Landcruiser forums and you'll find the largest tyre size that can be fitted as standard and what's involved in a lift.

The 90/95 series can take 265/75-16 without any major mods, You can fit slightly larger if you mess about with the mudflaps but it is dependent on the shape of the tyre, square shoulders like the BFG AT foul more easily than the rounder shoulder tyres.
Lift kits are pretty reasonable from Milners stg75 for a 2" kit and that includes the steering spacer. over 2" and you start to run into problems with the front driveshaft angles.
That said a 2" lift makes a lot of jobs much easier to do, rear shocks, clutch removal etc.
Its possible to do a lot to the 90 series the limiting factor in many cases is the thickness of your wallet.

265/75 is a reasonably big size (about 32") and common, and a 2" lift on a LC sounds cheaper and easier than I was expecting so there you go ;)

Must admit I spent more than I needed but my suspension fully dislocates which means you have change more parts, plus I'm a sucker for shiny stuff anyway

If you decide to go for a lift. Watching your tracking and alignment, have a habit of kicking out.

Thats a body lift not a full suspension lift. Just to be clear.

No snow troubles here - just be careful in underground carparks!!

Doesn't say what size they are, but might be worth a call?

So what exactly is the difference between a body lift and a suspension lift?

Thanks Top Dod. They're the kind of rims I'm looking for alright, but my yoke is 5 stud.

99 Landcruiser yours should be 6 stud not 5.
Body lift lifts the body off the chassisa and can help with wheel arch clearance
Suspension lift lifts the chassis and body in relation to the wheels= lot more involved but should increase GC as well.

Not all of them are. the 100/ amazons are 5 stud (the really big one with the 4.2 engine)

Putting small steels on to try to get a "monster truck" look is a bit silly, you really would want to actually raise it, then use appropriate size wheels, with big tyres, not small wheels. it's the tyres that make the wheels look small.

99 landcruiser lwb sitting outside the window here has 265/75 tyres on it's 16" alloy wheels, they're a pretty standard size

No they aren't, they are all 6 stud.
The 80 and 100 series wheels fit the 90/95 series but are a different offset and wider.142155.jpg

I'm afraid you're wrong, there ARE 5 stud landcruisers, and they're not all amazons either, sever versions can be found with 5 stud wheels, seems to be the ones for aus/nz and jdm ones.

here are some pictures of 5 stud 70s, and 100s

You are right 100 series are 5 stud but that last pic is actually a 105:D
Not many 75/78 series here, I have only seen 2.

2 is more than 0... which has defeated your own point that all landcruisers are 6 stud, they simply are not, and the "105" is still a 100 series vehicle, much like the 70 series. and in other makes there is a nissan silvia S14, and an S14a which had a facelifted front but they're versions of the same thing.

All Irish supplied Landcruisers bar the 100 series are 6 stud.
Toyota never brought in any 75/78 series troopies to the best of my knowledge but they could possibly have supplied the 73 series at some point.

105's are actually quite different from the 100 series, different bumpers, drivetrain and engines. They are actually more like 100 series bodies on an 80 chassis. In fact the only similarity is the body.

FCUK! I'm more confused than ever now! How do you check what series your LC is? Is it on any paperwork or anything?

Mine looks like an amazon, but has a 3L turbo diesel. I always assumed it was a 90 series. I always get asked when insuring it is it an amazon, prado, colorado, or GX. I say GX cos it doesnt have seats or windows in the back. There's no sign or writing or badge other than the Toyota T on the front grill

I'm sure CJ will sort you out but there's a chassis no guide for Hilux and LC on Milner's site http://www.milneroffroad.com/chassisnumbers/Toyota%20UK.pdf

What does your VIN say? Its on the plate attached to the firewall in the engine bay, just behind the brake booster.
It has a section for Model likely its a KZJ90/95, 90 is SWB 95 is LWB.
    Its not an Amazon.
    GX is a spec level.

    No worries.
Those 80 series rims are 0 offset and on a 90 would be the same as fitting a 30mm spacer to the stock rims.
    Nice wheels.

They are nice rims indeed, but they're just not what I'm looking for Cmar. CJH, what does 0 offset mean? How does that work, is there 0 offset, 1 offset etc.?

It is the distance from the centreline of the wheel expressed in positive or negative value.
    What Landcruiser do you have?

Try asking on the Irish Land Cruiser forum, sounds like you need to join anyway if you're looking to do this.
