    Hi,

    Does anyone know of any finance options for buying a mac? I know the official mac store doesn't offer finance in Ireland but are there any other options like pc world or somewhere where you can pay it off over 12 - 24 months?

    Find myself in a position where i need one rather urgently but don't have the money at the moment :(

    Thanks,

    PC World used to do finance - not 100% sure if they do now, but check with them.

    Argos do what they call "Interest free credit". You pay a 10% deposit now, then the rest of the price in 6 months time (or before). If you do that, you pay no interest.

    If you can't settle it then, then you're on to finance at 23%. So It could work out well for you if you know you'll have the money within 6 months. Not so well if you don't.

    Arnotts have interest free finance on purchases over €1000. You have to pay 20% up front and the rest over 12 months

    Thanks for all the suggestions.. arnotts stopped doing finance 2 weeks before xmas and it looks like its gonna be permanent.. and argos require a landline number (which is not mentioned on the website) so im gonna look into harveynorman now

    dont want to be rude but why not save the money until you can afford it outright.*

    my understanding is that Apple will be releasing another batch of Macbooks in Feb/March .... so if you start saving you might have a decent amount ready.

    * = No offence intended

    Do you need a new macbook pro ? or is it simply that you want to upgrade to the latest/shiny one .... I have mine since 2008 and intend upgrading hopefully in the next year or so, the reason I purchased in 2008 was because my current macbook pro was smashed to bits by someone so I had very little choice.

    no offence taken!
    its mostly because I am a web & graphic designer and I use windows (a very shiny hp touchsmart all in one pc that I love). but my job finished up just before xmas and the last 3 interviews i went on all require someone who is "extremely proficient on a mac".. if i get any one of those jobs (or others that I apply for) I will need to be able to use a mac (and probably pretty soon..)

    If you already have a desktop why do you need to purchase another screen?

    any proper size tv, plus wireless keyboard and mouse becomes a mac with a mac mini - fair enough its not the sleek looks or high end performance of the best macs, but its a budget option!

    Would advise you avoid this option like the plague, OP pm me for specifics if needs be.

    main difference between 719euro mac mini and 1149 macbook pro is the ram, 2gb vs 4gb, anybody know if you can expand this?
