Water was cut off twice today where I live. It came back at about 6 and I am just wondering does it automatically fill the tank in the attic?

I didn't realise it was off in the middle of the day and I flushed the loo! but by and large didn't use too much of the tank water today. There is water coming from the cold and hot taps in the bathroom(s).

    Thanks

Yes it does, once their is enough pressure to carry it that high. It fills your tank, and then you take from it as you open taps, flush toilets etc. As you do the tank refills from the mains if its working correctly
