    Pix, Im doing an engineering course myself at the moment. Im doing mechanical and manufacturing engineering which seems to be in high demand both at home and abroad. Manufacturing should be in high demand here in the coming years if the country starts to pick up. But to be fair on my course we can branch off to specialist areas in our final year so it is handy in one sense as you can gauge where the work is. I myself will be sticking closely to manufacturing and probably renewable energy.

    Its worth noting that I don't know any unemployed mech engineers and I know quiet a few but thats not saying there isnt a few. I would only know lads who graduated from my course. 8 lads graduating this year have been offered work abroad as soon as they finish 4 going to Boston and 4 going to Japan. They all specialised in manufacturing

    Thanks Darragh for reply. Where are you studying and how do I go about it being a mature student.

    Engineering demand is quite regional.

    In the West, Medical device manufacturing is the main employer at the moment.

    Polymer Engineering
    Mechanical Engineering
    Quality Engineering (If you really consider that engineering :))
    Production Engineers
    Manufacturing Engineers

    If you are a mature student, then take a look at the Open University.

    Regards;

    Derek
