Myself & my fiance are getting married & we're looking for a great venue......somewhere rustic, scenic, maybe in a small village. The type of place where you feel like you have the place to yourself. We're not really looking for the usual large hotel type venue & we're happy to travel abroad (Italy, France, Malta...wherever) for the right location.

It'd be great to hear back from people with first hand experience of somewhere that sounds like the above.

It'd be great to hear a few suggestions

France is out of the question i think. As far as i know, but im open for correction, you need to live there for a certain period of time if you want to get married there. I remember it been said to me once.

If i am wrong, the south of france is fantastic, i lived there for a while and loved the atmosphere.

If you decided to stay here, we married in Crover house in Cavan, we had the whole hotel booked out for the wedding, it was very private, stunning grounds overlooking lough sheelin. http://www.croverhousehotel.ie/

Looks fantastic, What about the accomodation? I can't see much about it on the website. How many can they accomodate? Are the rooms expensive?

What about this place. Full of charm in Co.Derry, offering a big discount for first booking in 2011 http://www.ballyscullionpark.com

I have to recommend The Stationhouse in Kilmessan, Co Meath. If you haven't been its an old converted railway station -very small. The bridal suite is small but it is converted signal box - lots of character. They do a lot of weddings but by god do they do it well.

We got married in October and I can honestly say they made us feel like ours was the onl wedding they ever did. It was amazing. They have fantastic gardens, food was top class, great to deal with and it is a nice small hotel. Herself was adamant that from the day we got engaged that she wanted a nice country/rural wedding in a place with character where she was the only bride! You'd be surprised how some hotels can have 2 weddings on a day.

I could go on all day about it but I won't.

39 rooms as far as I recall with a mixture of doubles and singles. Not expensive at all tbh, we were very pleasently surprised with our bill when we were leaving the hotel after the wedding. we were expecting around 2k above the final amount. Staff were amazing, we stayed an extra 2 nights and we were treated like royalty until the moment we left.
