The first outing for Dublin players, hurling and football, will be at the Blue Stars matches at St. Brigid's club in Castleknock on Saturday the 1st of January 2011. The Hurling is at 1:30pm and the Football at 3:15pm. So shake off your New Year's Eve party hangovers and get out and show the rest of the country that we are not just sunshine fans that start going to matches in June, not January. See you there! 2011 could be our year. :)

tell us more.. what is this match? Blue Stars being the first team vs. rest of Dublin panel?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Flukey

The Blue Stars are basically the Dublin equivalent of the All-Stars, for both Hurling and Football. Traditionally they each play a Dublin selection in early January at a chosen GAA ground. It is a chance for the Dublin management to see and try out some new players before the start of the O'Byrne Cup, Walsh Cup and Leagues. It is also the first opportunity for the Dublin fans to see their teams and the up and coming talent getting a run out. Dublin Bus and the Evening Herald sponsor the event. Dublin Bus usually run free shuttle buses from a nearby rail station. The details for this year are as posted in my first post. The games are being played at Russell Park, on the Navan Road. Check the St. Brigid's website for more details. http://www.stbrigidsgaa.com/

Parnell Pass holders have been known to get in free, though that isn't always the case. Worth a try though, so if you have one, bring it with you.

Is that the same D'Arcy who last pulled on a Dublin shirt in Thurlas in 2001 ?

I take it that the game will be played on the grass pitch and not the astro despite the picture?

No, the games are on the astro. Great setup out there. Always freezing at the Blue Stara, bring hats, scarves....hip flasks.

    One and the same.

Nope, it's on the astro. The grass pitch is most likely in absolute bits at the moment. The artificial pitch is a little bit fast for hurling but it's better than playing in a mudbath.

WE were due to play the Tomás Mulligan Memorial Tournament on that pitch last Monday night but due to the weather, we had to pull the plug. Hope the pitch holds up for tomorrow's games.

Heading away for a few days myself so won't be able to make the trip down.

Just looking at both lineups and it would seem that the Blue Stars have the edge in the football both defensively and up front but Dublin may have the stronger midfield.

I'm in work and will be missing this.:(

Would have loved to see how Paul Brogan does at full back for Dublin and what form Connolly will turn up,see if he will regain any place in the Dublin setup.

Dublin hurlers look very strong.Good to see Ronan Fallon and Stephen O Loughlin getting run outs with the Blue Stars.

Oh well, must look forward to Mullingar next Sunday.

Is that match definitely down for Mullingar? Can't seem to find info anywhere on it.

Haven't seen anything on it lately but when I did check the fixtures there a few weeks ago it said Westmeath v Dublin , Mullingar 2.30pm

We're due a visit down there.Anytime we play them it seems to be in Parnell Park.
