For whatever reason, I cannot play a lag-free game with most of my irish sf4 players on my friends. This includes people I used to have a great connection with. It's the same story each time...it is listed as a 2 bar connection for the first game and a 0 bar connection for all subsequent games (even though there is no difference in the lag between 0 and 2 bars).

    This displeases me greatly. :pac::pac::pac:

If possible, I'm looking to have a practice game with as many people as I can. Once finished, I was hoping if you could pm me your service provider, your router and your NAT setting.

I'm hoping that I can spot some recurring theme so my ISP can look into it further.

If you'd like to help and are willing to forward the information, can you reply here please and I'll keep an eye out for you? :D

Could be an NAT issue, make sure your NAT is set to open on your xbox, if it's strict, call your ISP an get them to set it to open.

Other than that make sure your Xbox ports are opened on your router.
Is your router fully compatable with xbox live? XBL doesn't support ALL routers.

Probably not a NAT issue as if it was it you would only have issues connecting to other people.NAT configuration will not cause lag.
I'd put my money on your router or physical line config on ISP side.
Badger the crap out of your ISP.
I had a similar issue and it turned out it was my modem and also a line issue.
Whats your ping result from pingtest.net?

also when its laggy. Get a PC and ping your ISP's external web gateway continuously..You'll find it on your router.
If you see terrible ping times when SF is laggy save them and show to your ISP. This means there is an issue with your line or modem

Tried absoluetly everything on my end except try a different router. Ports are open, NAT is open and router is fully compatable.

Clutching at straws here, but I can't understand why I have perfect connection with some and problems with alot of others. If I can identify that all my good connections are because all these players have X and my bad are because all these players have Y, I might get an idea of what's going on.

Everytime I get a 2 bar with a non-irish player, it's perfectly playable. Everytime I get a 2 bar with an irish player, its a lagfest.

Unky, A-trak, Robknoll, Uberprinny, Burning, Dreddy - all 2 bar (first game) and 0 bar (subsequent games).

Bush, Generic, Sabre, Araforn, Foamy, Sagat -no problems.

Good idea about pinging when the game is laggy. Unky you are on my 2-bar list, you mind playing a game or 2 in EB tonight (or whenever you're around) to test this?

No Problem..will Do.If all else fails, Sabotage your modem and make them replace it(something I also had do to with UPC as they refused to change it and i knew it was the problem))

Yeah, I'm with UPC 30 mb and my connection was dodgy so I knew it was the router. I switched the shi-te cisco router that they gave me to bridging mode and piggybacked my old linksys router. Did this yesterday and it seemed to do the trick.

    answer these first.

    Where are you located??
    Whos your ISP?
    What connection do you have?
    What modem/router do you use?
Hows the Xbox connected to modem/router?
Does anyone else use the internet while youre on XBL?

This is getting rediculous. Now Araforn is on the two bar list. |Dreadful lag in a practice match.

Get the ip address of someone your getting 2 bars again.
Goto Start > Run > type cmd and press enter
Type tracert IPOFSAIDPERSON and press enter.
It'll show up a list of nodes you have to connect to to connect to that person.
You should be able to see if its your ISP or theirs thats causing the slowdown.

Thanks for the advice all, sorry PPC never saw this response...will try it.

Can I ask what upload speeds people have on their current connection. I have a 7 day trial of an upgrade to 1Mb upload connection to see if it solves my problem. I'm seeing a higher percentage of green bars. If I normally have a poor connection vs you and I see you online over the next few days, I may ask for a test EB match. :)

If I'm on over the next few nights I'll have a test match with you.
    (I'm on a 15Mb connection, 2Mb up)

My connections doing the old 'Unable to join game' nonsense again, I think somebody keeps resetting the modom and it throws the NAT back onto strict. Will have to have a look before this tourney starts.

I find that logging out and back into XBL solves this problem.

Run a ping test through out the day I'd say not a trace route if you enter Ping www.heanet.ie -t (just copy and paste) and anytime you lag in a game you can run over to see what the results were at the time.
