You wont end up on one of their planes. There isnt enough biz left for them that other airlines cant do themselves. The once owner hal gamble is running a company called aviarepsplc.I think they do a lot of marketing for airlines before they begin to operate new routes.
Strange they still have the webpage running.

AFAIK Aviajet never operated under its own AOC- it was Air Atlanta Icelandic who used operate for them. I think they operated an A310 and 737's. Hello also operated an MD82 for them

They took commercial hold over certain aircraft to suit their purpose.Mainly aircraft with 170 economy seats for routs from Dub to Europe. And 240+for ta.
From 2004 they began to lease aircraft with pilots only usually three crews per aircraft, they then employed 80+ flight attendants as it was much easier to manged your own fas then those from another companies.
In 2004 they leased one boeing 767-300 it was the first 76 to be registered in Portugal so any ta flight aviajet had on sched would need to take the non-etops route(as it hadn't been certified by INAC),i recall one flight from Shannon to Barbados taking 12 hours.
They used this aircraft in 04 to perform short haul as well as long haul, the following year seen them increase in size i guess it was all following the credit buble.
They had a number of mds,one from Spanair/air Dubrovnik and mapflight service ,in 05 they dumped the 767 for an a310-300 from islandsflug at that stage Islandflug was being integrated with airatlanta/avion group.
The a310 was a junker in comparison to the 767 they had a heap of problems with it.
They made plenty of money sorting other messes out for other airlines which need aircraft at short notice.
The highlight of the lot would have been in late 2003 they took in a 742 reg tf-abp&tf-atd they used 747s for the month ending the half year contract.

I had the pleasure if flying on that for 8-9 hours before

A year later I googled them and found a website that had photos of fire brigade at the plane, wasn't surprised tbh.

Oh God...AviaJet...I had the pleasure of flying with them in 2004 to Orlando-Sanford. Flight took 12 and a half hours. Horrific experience.
    • One of the crew members shoved me out of the way. I was standing up, about to get into my seat and was barely in the aisle and she just barges along and shoves me. I was 11 at the time...
    • The seats were held together by duct tape
    • The IFE didn't work one on side and I remember them refusing to reset it.
    • We were three hours late into Orlando, and sat on the ground in Dublin for the entire time. Crew, I was told, were not to be seen,
    • Coming back the crew got bored during the demo, and one tied another crew members' "oxygen mask" to a chair mid-demo and ran off giggling....

We complained to Budget Travel, and they weren't doing that route after that season I don't think. Was my first TATL flight and I was all excited and they ruined it. Ah well. They're gone now.

Like you said the A310 was a junker.

a JUNKER from the perspective of the passenger(unkept interior),mechanically sound.
Cant really blame people thinking the wing is going to fall off because their tray table wobbles a bit.
But dont worry you wont be on any aircraft leased from them again.

Nope. Nothing except the 2nd last point is hear-say. I remember it well. I can remember most of my flights from 1999 on :P In the hours since I've posted that last report, I remember a few more things (stupid little things but still).

And we got it as a flight+hotel+car deal. I'm guessing at the time it'd be around €1,100pp for the lot, for 2 weeks.

That sounds like a very good guestimation.Next time don't use Budget holidays maybe fly with Ei it will be less horrific.

Had a trip to Iceland on that particular aircraft, Wallace travel were using Aviajet at the time. The interior was fairly tatty but the MD82 impressed with its low noise levels (obviously sitting away from the engines). They are still quite popular with SAS airlines.

Aviajet did have a very serious incident as the MD-83 nearly hit the building as the pilot mistaken the runway light in the hotel in santry cross instead of runway 34

    The report is here

And once again who OPERATES the aircraft? WHO owns the aircraft? Flightline, only thing aviajet had to do with this incident was making 170 seats available to a certain tour operator.Plane crashes which it didnt all liability lies with flight line.
There is more to the story here, the hotel which is the days hotel was under massive scrutiny from the iaa.
If you look about the net you will find plenty similar cases.

That particular aircraft was owned and operated by Flightline UK (another company who operated on behalf of Aviajet)

Flew DUB to Fuerteventura a few years back on the Flightline MD-83 and wasn't all that bad in fairness.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,189 ✭✭✭drdeadlift

    Ok,you go read previous posts.

    Does aviajet own the plane?
    Who operates the plane?
Who is responsible for safe operation of the plane?

Aviajet is simply a logo on the side of the aircraft. That is all.

No wonder the Irish press along with half the worlds are so wrong when it comes to understanding aviation.

I'd say the Tripadvisor review of that hotel would make interesting reading, perhaps commenting on interior decor, quality of service, and the noise of screaming Pratt & Whitneys.....:p
