As per title....i need to replace my trial of McAfee soon and am looking for a recommendation on an internet security package that wont tax my already limited system. Ive got WIndows 7 with 1Gb of ram and the Intel Atom processor.

    Cheers,
    Ken.

I will give you a vote for AVG free. Its light and quite accurate. Also maybe check out Nod32. I have not used it but I have heard good things.

I have found avg free far from light weight.
I'd recommend Eset but it isn't free. Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials would be a good place to start.

I've used a lot of different packages over the years but always on my pc which is quite powerful hence I wouldn't really notice Internet security running in the background.

My netbook came with mcafee but it's quite taxing.
I've loaded on microsoft security essentials and ill see how I get on with it.

+1 with Avast for AV and Comodo for Firewall. Have them running on a netbook after the Macafee free trial ended.

+1 for Avast Free. It's lightweight, unobtrusive and pretty comprehensive.

I'm not mad for Comodo as it seems overkill for most purposes. If you're running Win7 you can just stick with the built-in Windows Firewall. If you run this along with Avast you should be fine.

bullguard, running narly 3 years on a gb toshib netbook and its flying. never had a virus and when I installed it after having avg free it picked up things straight away and sped it up. Not too expensive either and great support
