It's either an m40b18 or m43b18. It is a BMW. Look at the radiator cap and windscreen reservoir.

    Bmw_316_e36_engine_bay-1.jpg
316 but a very similar set up.

A lot of stuff has been relocated out of the engine bay though. Guess the car is being made into a show car?

EDIT: Also look at the fuse box on the top right.

    I'd say a straight 4 bmw engine.

It's not a game lads , I'm trying to figure out myself what it is! lol

RedLexus is just a Photobucket account name.
    It's in a BMW rally car , 1600cc , 4 cylinder.

It lies at an angle like the M series Beemer , but the 2 black semi-circles under the rocker cover aren't on the M42/M44s?

It looks like an N42 B18 engine (from an E46 for e.g.)

They must be using the E46 head on a 1.6 E36 block, to make it 1600cc?

Going by wiki, it could be n45 if it's 1600ccm with 72mm stroke and 84mm bore that came in 116i e87

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_N45

edit: I think that touring car uses this very engine but in 2 liter variant coded n45b20s in that link
