I shot a wedding yesterday and the bride had rented the cake for the day, beautiful cake that would have cost €750. Cost €75 for the rental and €200 deposit. Top idea

but what about the photo of cutting the cake ???

(dont tell me you staged the shot !!! ...ooohhh nooooo ;) )

and what about the ould grannies expecting to take a piece of cake home ?

Staged the shot before everybody came in with the knife behind it and then after the meal it dissapeared :)

Great idea alright. It was probably a 'dummy' cake - made of styrofoam but iced up and decorated like the real thing.

That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard, either you want a cake or you want desserts, and if you want desserts then just admit it and not have a cake! People sticking so rigidly to traditions that they don't want is madness, renting a feckin cake for the sake of one photo, sad.

    rent a cake.

    No.

Id rather not have one than pay 75 quid for a pce of iced styrofoam. The cake, if you want one is symbolic, cutting it, sharing it with your guests and keeping the top tier for the christening of your first child.

That's crazy. 75 quid - that must have been the most expensive shot of the day! I hate going to parties where they don't cut the cake, even if it is fake!

I would never pay that much for a fake cake, it seems a bit unneccessary, I would rather spend it on something else for the wedding. But was it because they just didn't want a cake? We are having dessert but also having a cake for the afters because the woman we are getting it from makes such yummy cakes!!

When do they give out the cake, is it when your going home?

75 quid for a fake cake, are you mad?? You can get a three tier one in M&S for 50 euro and you can even eat it! Looks the biz too!

At 11pm/11:30pm with the tea and sandwiches. Oldies keep it for luck.

    Renting a wedding cake. LOL!

Sorry but I think that is the silliest idea EVER!

Cake is for eating not photographing.

Sure you can get 75 cupcakes on a tiered stand for 100 euro. What a joke!

just wondering - if people actually keep the cake for the first childs christening? how long would the cake last, do they keep for very long? just curious..... (and I'll never eat cake at a christening now:eek:)

Eh no, it's for the wedding anniversary not the christening and only a small slice of the long lasting cake (hence why fruit cakes were the big thing before)
I didn't bother keeping mine but had a bit of biscuit cake kept aside to give to relatives and friends who couldn't make it to wedding. : )
Babies get their own cake at christening afaik.

Oh and the mammy just reminded me there - an old tradition is for the singles at the wedding to put a bit of the cake under the pillow for luck in getting married in the future - or some madness. I think you dream of yr love or something..?? I dunno...

No its not for the wedding anniversary -its for the christening.

However because the dstance between the christening and wedding day has over the years become more distant the tradition is less common, and probably substituted with the first anniversary. But as i said - the traditional use for the first tier is the christening of yor first child.

This is a stupid idea imo.

Imagine looking at your wedding photos in years to come and
    (a) knowing the cake is fake
    (b) thinking how stupid were we to pay €75 for a fake cake

It seems like such a waste of money. You don't have a wedding cake for the photos, you have a wedding cake because you want to eat it.

My friend got her cupcakes from below

I'm not too sure of exact price she paid, presume it would depend on selection, venue, etc????

You'd definitely get 75 cupcakes with tiered stand rental for €115-150, depending on design, delivery, set up, and of course varying prices (I've seen cupcakes differ in price from €1.40 to €3.00)
