    hi

I got a philips 32PFL5405H/05 in November but couldn't attempt to install saorview until i put up a wide band UHF aerial today.
Im located in east cork and am able to pick up tg4 and tv3 by analogue signal only, not a hint of digital reception:(

I spoke to a tv guy who knows what kind of aerial i should have in my area and he said i have the right one installed.
im guessing im picking up tv3/tg4 from Mullaghanish/ spur hill as i have the aerial pointing towards cork city and these are transmitting saorview.
I have tried setting the tv to uk/ireland/italy from what i read on boards already and the same story happens. I have already updated the tv to the latest firmware available from Philips as recommended by a user in another thread.

Could it be something simple that im not in a area that is receiving saorview yet?
although i have read on mpeg4ireland.com that people in midleton and fermoy are recieving saorview from the tranmistters from Mullaghanish/ spur hill
I have checked the specs and it does have a mpeg 4 tuner
Im totally lost as what to do next:confused:

    Any help is appreciated:)

I'm not an expert but have the same brand Philips TV as yourself. From what I understand if you can get good quality TV3/TG4 analogue reception then you should be able to pick up Saorview.

Def stick with selecting UK as your country when tuning. Try Manual 666 Hz as well and see what happens with that.

FWIW I spent most of this afternoon in an attic trying to get DTT from Mullaghanish for someone. Got decent enough TV3/TG4 signal on analogue from Mullaghanish, but zilch on digital. Only when we moved outside (at lower elevation) was DTT reception possible - maybe reflections in the attic.

Try a different location and use the TV digital signal meter as a guide, rather than the analogue picture.

Never trusted attic installations, always mount on chimney if possible!

Our own house is only a few hundred yards away, and we've always had an attic aerial with no problems. Go figure!!

    Hi Apogee

I initially installed the aerial in the attic which gave me poor tg4/tv3,
so today the aerial is sitting on a 6 foot pole on the chimney and both channels improved. :)

I never thought of trying lowering the elevation for the aerial.
Unfortunately from what i seen on the Philips menus it doesn't
show me any digital signal strength. So a bit of guess work is in order:eek:
