Myself and herself are looking to head off for between 1 and 2 weeks from around the 3rd January. Herself is looking for some sun so we are provisionally looking at the Canary Islands (Fuerteventura/Tenerife/Lanzarote). I did a lad's trip to Gran Canaria so we are excluding that for now. What we are looking for is a destination with:
    - Sunny weather
    - Nice Restaurants
    - Good for sight-seeing/tours etc

We are in our mid-30's so we are hoping to avoid:
    - Swarms of drunk lads/girls (no offense intended)
    - Annoying shopkeepers pulling at you from all sides
    - Tack

We are open to any other suggestions you might have for us other than the Islands. We were looking at Morocca but have been advised against (annoying shopkeepers/boring). We have already been to Cyprus (great place) but would love to hear what other 30-somethings would suggest, we are open to longer flights etc!

So where would you advise us to head? Thanks in advance.

don't worry about swarms of drunk lads/girls in the canaries in january, there won't be any, its mostly elderly people on holiday on those islands that time of year, lanzarote is the least tacky of the major islands and has some nice sightseeing options, however winter can be quite windy which brings the temperatures down alot on lanz, tenerife for me has more to see and do but parts of its such as playa del las americas are quite tacky

what about southern italy, weather should be ok, i was there in january few years back and it was 18-19c and sunny every day, south of naples is an amazing part of the world, pompeii, amalfi coast, sorrento, isle of capri, its real easy to combine a trip with a visit to rome as the high speed trains only take an hour from rome to naples, naples itself is not to nice :(

Argentina is ideal in January. It's summer time so loads of sun. Might be too hot for Buenos Aires, but there's lots of variety from hot northern Argentina around Salta and Jujuy all the way down to the cooler climes of Patagonia.
