what model is it? if it's a sealed system is it set to the right pressure 1-1.5bar.

If its a XiloT system boiler and the filling point was open then the pressure has gone down due to the water shortage.

Thanks for reply Gary71 and Johnniek, it is a xilo t and the water has been off but I don't know anything about filling point being open, or what it is for that matter, could you please explain how to check and fix this please as the pressure reading is 0, many thanks

The filling loop is a device designed for the purpose of filling a pressurized heating system, you open the tap water fills the heating system then you close it again when the correct pressure is achieved. In a ideal world you would have one incorporated in to the underneath of the boiler or on the pipe work also under neath, now the problem you will have is most filling loops are hidden and could be anywhere in your house, the best place to start is the hot press but it's no good to you till the pressure improves.

thanks a million gary, water is just coming back on now as i write this, i can i can hear it filling the tank upstairs, will wait till morning and try and find filling loop, just a couple of more questions, if the filling loop was left open would this cause the pressure to fall and the boiler to display malfunction light or is this something that happens when water is cut off?, you say its no good to me till pressure improves, how can i get the pressure to improve? thanks

The filling loop should have a non-return valve that stops the heating water contaminating the mains water system, if not then yes you can lose pressure via the filling point.

The mains water tends to hide heating system leaks, thats why bad people fit auto fillers to hide things, the warning light is probably on because of low pressure, try to find the manual to confirm.

The filling of a sealed system is dependent on the incoming mains pressure, a good plumber could pump water in to the heating system but as your losing pressure this is no good to you, so you Will have to wait till the mains is strong enough to pressurize your system.
Be aware you may have a tank fed system and no filling loop, a tank fed system is a sealed system feeding water to your heating via a the tank supply incorporating a non-return valve, if this is what you have then the pressure may not be great anyway.
