Buzzing sound when capo is on an acoustic?

    Hi everyone,

I was given an acoustic there recently which has a really nice sound. It was fine until I decided to play with a capo on the 7th fret. While playing noticed that where was a buzzing sound when I play the g string open. I played this string when the capo on other frets and it sounded fine.

I have no idea why its doing this. It's same buzzing sound as if there is not enough pressure being applied to the string. The capo is on tight.

    Any ideas whats wrong?

EDIT: Capo is not placed on top of the fret is anyone was thinking that.

When you fret the 7th fret on the g string with no capo is it ok? As always theres a load of possibilities but my guesses would be its either that fret isnt doing well in general (and therefore would buzz when fretted normally on that particular fret) or the capo doesnt suit it for some reason. My guess would be the capo, even if its on tight the shape of the capo vs neck might be a problem.

Yes, it's fine without a capo playing g string open on the 7th fret. The g string with the capo on any other fret sounds fine, I tested every string on every fret just to be sure, I wouldn't have thought the capo was the issue because of that.

    It's driving me mad! :(

I'd say try a different capo model anyways. Its got to be something marginal.

I'd have guessed at the tightness of the capo as this sometimes happens me, failing that, the action on the strings? might have to fix the bridge? or could it simply be the strings?

sounds like a dodgy capo to me(check for an impresion/mark on the part that goes over the string), if not that then check the fingerboard or fret for a crack or if its not level with the other frets but i'd say it's prob the capo
what type capo do u have

I try to get my hands on another capo, see if it works.

It's one of the dunlop trigger type ones.
