I have a '04 mondeo zetec 1.8 with 105k on the clock . Has anyone any advice on what work i should have done to keep her going ? Its only ever had a couple of services since i bought it 3 years ago . Dont want to spend a fortune but cant afford to change it either . Also it has a rubbing noise in the front passenger side wheel when turning left . I'd appreciate any advice . Thanks

    Erm, what's wrong with it?

That rubbing noise is probably a bearing, you need to get that taken care of

Timing chain could be due for renewal soon, 100,000 miles is the recommended interval for these.

The rubbing noise could be ball joint

When being serviced next time have them change the gearbox fluid, unlikely it's been changed ever. Not essential, but will prolong the life of the gearbox. They claim they're oiled for life - complete joke IMO.

Is it? Fords with a belt need it done at 100,000k, I would have assumed the chain would last longer.

There isn't much in particular you need to do to that car. It will do 300k with normal routine servicing. Get it serviced by a reputable mechanic every 12,500 miles or whatever the interval is and it wont see you wrong.

With the timing chains they generally last the life of the car. Only change if you start to hear a noise from it.

Think i paid 170. There was a bit of other damage done too though, new brake pads etc. Have the docket around somewhere, and that was a ford main dealer
