Now that the bad weather is gone and there was some chance of some golf... I have just gone and put my back out again.... that's me laid up now for 2 - 3 weeks.

Anyone else with the similar issues... seems like every few months I get the same issue..pain in lower right of my back going down the right leg... Tried physio but it was of no use.... At least now I know that it isn't caused by Golf as the last time I hit a golf ball was in November...

I tore a disc in June, so I know how you feel. FWIW, back pain that goes downwards into the bum and legs is nearly always sciatica. You would really want to get that checked as a matter of urgency.

Also, you can claim vat back on physio your doctor deems necessary, so make sure he tells you that you need it! (I have 2k in medical fees I am waiting to claim med 1 on from my spell).

I been away from the golf for the last 4 months I went for an MRI last month and found out I have a prolasped disc. I am going to sports clinic in santry to see specialist about it. I hope to get it sorted before the season starts as it is doing everyones head in that I can't play including my own OH says I better get it sorted before she uses my clubs on me lol.

    You could be me talking!!

Mine goes approx every 6 months, golf does not cause it but sometimes after a break the back is weaker and golf can aggravate it. I religiously do my core strengthening exercises which do help and as soon as I feel a twinge see an osteopath who helps get everything alligned again for me.

My back went just before xmas, was away for a week beg of Dec got lazy and didn't do my exercises and paid the price about a week later. Osteopath certainly got me walking straight again but I had to use ice packs and heat to reduce inflammation.

I have a physio in the family and the exercises I get from her help, same as ones osteo gave me, but she has never really done anything to improve my back

    Good Luck

Yes.... I have a set of exercises that I do nightly and it helps...
I had an MRI which showed up nothing more that the usual wear and tear for my age (40).. so am pretty sure that it is muscular ....

Just getting pissed off now as I have it now for about 6 years...ie the first time I got it ... then have got it every 5 to 6 months and lasts about 10 days.

    thanks for the replies though!!

I am just recovering from surgery last Thursday.

I lived with pain in my lower back & left left for the best part of 2 years. I tried the lot, Chiropractor, Physio etc. The physio ruled everything out, told me take a month off & if it was still bad to go to my GP as it is probably a disc problem.

Went to my GP who referred me for an MRI and to a Pain Management specialist. The MRI results were sent to the PM specialist & showed that I had a bulging disc protruding in the centre & right side and trapping the nerve stem. The PM guy referred me to an Orthopedic back surgeon and said that it was likely that I would need surgery but he would also give me an epidural injection of steroids to relieve the pain on the nerve (had 2 of them, one in Oct & one in Nov). They didn't give much relief and I was taking 21 tablets (Lyrica, Tramadol & Paracetamol) each day up to last Thursday for pain relief.

I eventually got to see the surgeon on the 4th of Dec & have been ut of work since. He told me that surgery was the best option. He very kindly managed to get me in before xmas. I felt relief immediately after the surgery. I now walk without a limp for the first time in about 5 months. Now I just have to follow the instructions that I was given by the physios in hospital before I left (I was out by noon the following day). Surgeon said if all goes well I can be back playing in 3 months & considering the weather at the previous 2 yrs I won't miss much as it was April before I started playing much anyway.

I'm not trying to put the sh*ts up you & hopefully yours doesn't turn out to be as bad as mine was but if you have health insurance I would recommend you go to your GP and get the MRI. You may save yourself a lot of pain & discomfort in the long run. At least the GP can give you something for the pain if nothing else.

    Best of luck with it

Sorry for the advice at the end, just read you have gotten the MRI already, hope the exercises help.

Did you get the MRI recently? I know of people who got a 2nd one 6 months or so after the first & showed that the disc had worsened.

Thanks Seorg.... Sounds like your surgery went well... it must feel like a weight off to have that relief.
I had my MRI about a year ago and as it was clear did not go down the road of consultants but think I will revisit that in the new year..

i,ve had the same problem for years. finally got a scan. it was a protruding disc that was putting pressure on the nerve hence the leg pain. thankfully didnt need surgery. try and have a good stretching regime every morning and really have a good stretch before and after golf.
