Seems there's a wheeler dealer marathon on Discovery today, great little program but it would be so much better without the theatrics, the main presenter is a bit of a tosser! The mechanic is bearable though.

    Any fans?

Both lads are pretty easy to watch to be honest and a great show to boot. I only wish they would do bikes :D

Yes love this show but it would be nice if they did it a tad more basic with the tools involved, the Brewer lad usually spends about £2000 on a car and then sells it for £2500 or something like that while he has his mechanic friend with a workshop and about £30,000 worth of tools spend about 30 hours solid on it. Would be better if it was all basic tools for the repairs and servicing and have him do it all on his driveway or shed without the equipment of a main dealer to hand.

From a knowledge point of view I much preferred The Garage, picked up far more stuff from this than any other motoring show.

I'd love to live near that mechanic, he obviously works for nothing because when they show the profit and loss numbers at the end of the programme not one penny is included for his labour.

They don't factor labour in because it's covered in their wages for doing the show. Been done many times over on the TV forum.

doesn't the mechanic (Ed China) hold the Guinness world record for the worlds fastest piece of furniture?

This dude Marek Turowsk took his record off him a few years ago:

Lotus Elan on now. Arguably their best ever project.

I thought that was good too but I also liked the real 6 series.

It is a lovely motor... I also liked the W123 episodes and the MX5 (but hated those white alloys they fitted).

Ha, our very own Limerick Man models himself on Mike and Ed....

That Elan tidyed up into a mint little car though. They do some good work on there.

My favourite was the VW Camper they bought and cleaned up. Turned it into a real nice machine, some engine mods done too.

Yeah the VW camper was on earlier, gotta say that's my favourite thus far, it looked epic once they'd finished with it!

I tihnk it was the custom paint that set it off.

Although I was watching one the other day with a Mini Cooper. They wrapped it with a Carbon fibre wrap, and put gold alloys and bucket sets on it. Probably a close second to the Camper!

The kid who got it has to be the weirdest kid I've ever seen. Far too much time and effort trying to be cool to ever be cool. The CF Wrap was a bit much too IMHO. Doing the roof'd been enough.

I doubt anyone thinks he actually does it for free, I think it's more the point that they don't factor in the labour costs into the expense of the car, so it's not realistic.

I don't agree with this though; I doubt anyone would bother with projects like this if they had to pay a mechanic to do all the work.

I always considered it to be a "how to do this yourself" kind of show as Edd is always giving tips on how to do things yourself and mentioning how much a garage would charge you to do them for you. That would be one explanation for the lack of labour costs at the end.

Of course, they make so much off the show on TV that it wouldn't matter anyway.

I sometimes wonder if they are being 100% honest about how much they pay for parts etc though just to make it look like they "win" all the time lol.

They did come clean that they lost money a few years ago on the Suzuki SJ410 that they turned into a mini monster truck but it failed its MOT over rust issues.
